Sasha Alexander Shares Her Rule for Sibling Squabbles

Sasha Alexander is soaking up the sibling bond between her two children.

“It’s really fun to watch the kids interact and fight and just provoke each other,” the Rizzoli & Isles star tells PEOPLE. “There’s a whole dynamic there that I’m sort of glad I didn’t have — but it’s really fun to watch as a parent!”

In an effort to keep the peace between her kids — Lucia Sofia, 7, and Leonardo Fortunato, 2½ — the actress is enforcing a new household rule that she hopes will deter her daughter from pushing her baby brother’s buttons.

“Lucia can be very nurturing to him, she’s a very loving and kind little girl … She can also know how to prod him exactly the way that would make him cry the whole ride home,” Alexander, 40, explains.

“My whole thing now is, okay, if you’re going to do that to him, then you’re going to take care of him for the rest of the day. Like, if you’re going to make him cry, then you’re going to take care of him.”

As the daughter of an actress, Lucia has quickly learned the secrets behind the big screen — and seems to have no problems with recognizing a little movie magic.

“I viewed E.T. for her the other day, which was a huge deal for me because it was such an impact on my life. I was really excited about it and it got to the part where E.T is going to die and I’m crying,” Alexander says.

“My daughter looks at me and she goes, ‘Mommy, did they paint him white?’ [I said,] ‘Did who paint him white?’ She said, ‘The movie people.’ I couldn’t believe [it]!”

As for Leonardo, his latest milestones have left Alexander and her husband Edoardo Ponti with a constant case of the giggles, as they teach their son the importance of pronunciation.

“The big thing is he likes cars and trucks, but he can’t say ‘t’ … that’s kind of the whole joke in the house right now. He likes cars and f—-,” the actress says with laugh. “We’re practicing … ‘No Leonardo, it’s t-t-t-truck’ and he just … he can’t say it.”

LOL, I love her. That was a hilarious story.

So glad Rizzoli and Isles was renewed yesterday!

My son did the same thing with “trucks”! I absolutely love her and think it would be awesome to be the daughter in law of Sophia Loren! Glad she’s on Rizzoll and Isles but miss her on NCIS. She was way better than Ziva is.

I adore the children’s names!!!!

Definitely one of the best shows on now that The Closer is gone. Thank heavens for TNT and its renewal!!!

Lol! I love the ET story. Isn’t she best friends with Spielberg’s daughter? I think that makes the story even cuter.

I read in an earlier article that she has a brother. In fact she took his name as part of her stage name. So how can she suddenly be an only child???

She doesn’t say she was an only child … she just says she didn’t have the provoke one another “dynamic”.

Maybe her parents didn’t allow squabbling. I know mine didn’t. (Not a good idea, by the way.) Or maybe her brother is much older or younger and one or the other was out of the house before the squabbling could start. Or maybe her parents divorced so they weren’t raised together. She didn’t say she was an only child.

I think I would be so intimidated if Sophia Loren’s was my mother-in-law (I know the story wasn’t about her), but Sasha seems to have a good head on her shoulders and a great sense of humor! Loved reading how she deals with the kids! 🙂

I ‘m sure her mother inlaw” Sophia Loren” is very proud of her grandchildren and their parents.

I have a 9 year old daughter and 11 year old son. They were bickering in the car the other day and I made them hold hands on the way to the store. They did not enjoy it. When we were in the store, they started getting irritated with each other and I told them they will hold hands in the store if they didn’t stop. Ahh peace the rest of the trip. They usually get along wonderfully, but once in a while they get on each other’s nerves. Holding hands is my new punishment. Works perfectly for them. As they age, I have to find more consequences as some don’t continue to work with their age (besides removing electronics, which they don’t get whenever they feel like having it).

Some people may find it of interest that her mother-in-law is Sophia Loren – legendary screen actress.

Oh wow! With Sophia Loren as her Mother in law, I bet those grand babies are gorgeous! Her son Carlo is hot, as is Sasha! I had no idea! Talk about a gene pool!

Rizzoli and Isles is one of the best shows out there!

She is lovely and I really enjoy Rizzoli and Isles. So glad for TNT; wouldn’t have much good TV without it! Can’t stand all the Reality shows, and some of our favorite shows are on TNT and USA.

Old Lady, why do you think not allowing your children to fight is a bad thing? My children got along very well, and I encouraged that; they still do as adults. Same for me and my sister. Didn’t miss fighting, and we always had a great relationship. Don’t get why some people think siblings have to fight all the time…….

I know Sasha has been in big series like Rizzoli & Isles, NCIS. But actually I got to know her first when she played Wilson’s neighbor in season 6 episode of HOUSE MD. Just a guest star but she really got me. Then I got 2 early seasons of NCIS (I didn’t watch it before, just not interested – but after that, I continue to watch til now, though she’s not in it anymore). The next year she started on Rizzoli & Isles, and definitely I followed the series. I still do. I’m so happy it got renewed to season 5. I’m definitely a fan of Sasha!

Cute story 🙂 Can’t get over her kids’ rhyming names though. I would’ve thought that one out better, but maybe that’s just me. If you separate their first and middle names they’re totally lovely though!

Sure, she has two kids, but they are five YEARS apart. No big deal.

Big Sis of 7!

I’m 27. I have one younger sister 22 and three younger brothers 25, 21,& 20. The five of us haven’t always got along went we were kids or talked free to another, but now as adult we do and I couldn’t imagine my life without them.

I also have three other younger brothers who are 13,8, & 6 their kids so they think I’m “old and boring” I have a son to and want more kids and I hope my son and future children have a same relationship I have with my four younger sibs.
