While some moms dread seeing their little ones grow up, Ashlee Simpson is loving every moment.

Her son Bronx Mowgli, now 4½, is becoming a “smart, sweet and amazing” little boy, she says.

“He’s always funny,” Ashlee, 28, told PEOPLE at the launch of older sister Jessica Simpson‘s fall fashion line campaign at the Thompson LES Hotel in New York.

“He keeps you on your toes and he’s got great stories and a great imagination. When I was doing Chicago, he said he was making his own play about ninjas.”

Bronx (whose dad is Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz) has also taken on the role of doting cousin to Jessica’s children, Maxwell Drew, 14 months, and Ace Knute, 4 weeks.

“Oh he loves it. He’ll get it soon. Right now, he’s like ‘OK, Maxwell, come hang out with me! Let’s go to your play room,’ ” she explains. “We are always all together. We’re a close family.”

As for how Ashlee celebrated her newborn nephew’s arrival, she opted for a sentimental gift when he was born on June 30.

“There was this awesome thing that we made with Bronx,” she explained. “It was like cool, vintage shirts all made into a blanket, so all these things that represented his mom and dad. So we made that all into a blanket. Just cute stuff — things that represent Eric, things that represent Jessica, and you take the little vintage shirts and jerseys and make [them] into a blanket.”

That’s really sweet.

Can’t think of anything nice to say Kristen? His hair is adorable, you need an attitude adjustment, stop picking on children.

Kristen, really? That’s all you got out of this whole article? People can cut their child’s hair when they want to; Bronx is her’s and Pete’s child. Shave your kid’s hair if you like, but don’t criticize someone else’s choice. Sheesh, is there any kindness anymore on this site?

Really on

This is a repeat story from last week. You ran it the same day you ran the one about her modeling for her sisters clothing line. This just makes your site boring. Please come up with something new.

@Kristen are you his mum? No? Then shut the F*** up!!! I hate people like you, who stick your big ass nose into other peoples affairs. You are NOT his mother, and so you have no right to write comments like, ‘he needs a haircut.’ I have 5 boys, and my hubby and them love their long locks. They’re obsessed with it. Think Uncle Jesse in Full house, or Tim in Home improvement, and i get stupid people like you telling me all the time, you need to give them hair cuts ,they look like girls, etc etc, but i just tell them to their face to shut the F up. My boys also get irritated when others talk smack about their hair. Ashlee is the kind of mother that i’m sure would shave his head bald if only he wanted her too. So shut up and concentrate on your own bald headed brood!

Kristen…why does he need a haircut???

what exactly does she do? why is she newsworthy? because she’s Jessica’s sister??? I just don’t get it.

LMAO at you referencing 90′s tv shows as examples. You probably still wear acid wash mom jeans.

Kristen,
He needs food, water, love, and a roof over his head. How you chose to cut your hair is your choice, as is hers.

The real Mary, I am sure Jessica’s children love being cousins with him. Why would children under 4, not love playing with each other?!

lvb on

Good for them!

@the REALmary – The kids may be related, but not all kids get along that well at first. Some need time, being family doesn’t mean that you love other little ones in the family right away. Bronx is old enough to start understanding that he needs to be the older one, who takes care of the younger ones. Just like an older sibling wood.

@Sandy- She has been doing theater “Roxy Hart” as she has in the past, and also has a roll other than modeling in her sisters fashion line. So she is doing something, and does have her fans. There might be more going on that I’m not aware of, but atleast that’s something.

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
