Meet Sterling Diane Falconetti!

The baby girl, born June 25, is the newest addition to Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller‘s family. She and her husband, John Falconetti, are already parents to 3½-year-old son Rocco.

“She is our miracle baby,” says Miller, 36, who battled a non-hereditary form of ovarian cancer known as a germ cell malignancy in early 2011.

The seven-time Olympic medalist, leader of the famed “Magnificent Seven” women’s gymnastics team at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, underwent surgery to remove her left ovary and fallopian tube after her cancer diagnosis.

Although she preserved her eggs “as an insurance policy,” prior to undergoing a grueling nine-week chemotherapy regimen, she was able to conceive Sterling, now three weeks old, naturally.

Soon after they began trying for baby No. 2, “one day I did the [pregnancy] test, left it on the counter, got busy, came back seven hours later and went to throw it away and it said ‘PREGNANT,’” recalls Miller. “I thought it must have malfunctioned. I took another test and it said pregnant too. I was surprised, but John and I both had put our trust in God.”

Now a health advocate who runs a women’s health and wellness company, Shannon Miller Lifestyle, Miller says motherhood has “given me purpose that’s different than anything I’ve ever done. I think it’s calmed me down a little bit. Everything I do is for the kids. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.”

For much more on Miller’s emotional cancer journey and her new daughter, pick up this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday.

Sterling is beautiful! There are some other pictures on the Shannon Miller Lifestyle Facebook page that are really sweet as well!

Liz, was that really necessary? WOW!

Liz, you are a truly deplorable human being. Look in the mirror before you criticize others, I guarantee you won’t like what looks back at you.

Amber on

Congrats but what an unsafe crib (but cute baby)! Please remove stuffed animals, bumpers etc. Shannon!

Congratulations and praise the Lord. Shannon is an inspiration to many. I had no idea she had battled cancer until I read about it a few weeks ago – very inspirational in my own fight. God bless!!

Naming a little girl Sterling is just sad

LDH on

You’re a mean and nasty person Liz. It’s part of why our world is so sad. Mean people are awful people… You should be ashamed but clearly you enjoying trolling sites to say mean things. Find a productive hobby and make a positive difference.

LDH on

It’s Shannon’s grandmothers name Annie.

I have a granddaughter named Sterling; love the name! She is a beautiful baby, and I am so happy for Shannon and her family!

Does anyone remember Liz ever making a kind comment, or are they all critical? Just wondering……

Amber,

The baby’s not even a month old yet, I doubt she’s even sleeping in that nursery yet.

meghan on

Amber, this is her second kid. I’m pretty sure she knows what to do.

So happy for her and glad she’s doing well.

Tesha, I was going to say the same thing. My babies never slept in a crib at this age

You went through all of that to have her and named her Sterling? I don’t get name choices. But she’s a beautiful baby and I admire Shannon’s strength! Best wishes for a long and happy life for her and her family.
