Maya Rudolph: My Family Is Turning Into The Waltons
Grown Ups gone wild!
Promoting the sequel to their comedy franchise, which follows the friendships and families of best friends, costars Maya Rudolph, Salma Hayek, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James and David Spade came together for an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday.
And after participating in possibly the first official “Ellen dog pile,” the attention turned to Rudolph’s burgeoning belly, with Ellen DeGeneres — who noted the actress often appears on her show while pregnant — asking how many children Rudolph and her partner Paul Thomas Anderson have.
“Like 16, 17 — I don’t know!” Rudolph, 40, jokes. “This will be number four. This is like a modern-day version of The Waltons at this point.”
According to Hayek, Rudolph’s fans weren’t the only ones surprised by the baby news. “I remember last summer Maya said, ‘Can you believe I have three children? I’m never doing this again!” she recalls.
But Rudolph — who is “hoping” the baby on the way is born this summer — is quick to clarify that going back on her promise was no fault of her own.
“It’s like that light pen thing they do in Men in Black,” she says. “Someone just went like that and I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m going to do this again!'”
Fortunately, with a full plate — Rudolph is also mom to daughters Lucille, 3½, and Pearl, 7, and son Jack, 21 months — the mom-to-be can cross searching for a baby name off her list.
“Maya’s naming the baby Grown Ups 3,” jokes Sandler, the film’s writer and producer.
