As we dream of all the luxe goodies Prince William will most surely gift the Duchess of Cambridge this Valentine’s Day (somehow flowers and chocolate alone just don’t seem to cut it when you’re the future Queen!), we can’t help but also wonder what Kate Middleton will wear for the romantic occasion.
Will she do what she does best and recycle one of her fab frocks? Or will the mom-to-be reach for the maternity version of her famous navy silk engagement dress?
Although the special day is all about pink and red hues, dark dresses in rich colors are the way to go while you’re expecting according to Kate’s former stylist Nikki Pennie. Her pick: A classic blue wrap dress (a staple for the Duchess!) like David Bridal‘s Lace Cap Sleeve Dress ($149, below), which will work wonders on a woman with a beginner bump.

Pennie also advises moms-to-be to steer clear of any pieces that will leave you feeling less than fabulous for the big night. Empire dresses like the Strapless Beaded Waist Gown ($159) are easy to wear and are fit for a princess.
“Fabric is important when choosing a date night outfit, especially for pregnant ladies!” she explains. “Pick lightweight materials like jersey or chiffon.”
The trick, adds Pennie, is to offset the dress by adding fun jewelry and festive flats that pack a colorful punch. “Be sure to get playful … by making a statement with accessories, just as Kate always does!” she says.
So whether the Duchess steps out in a sleek LBD or surprises us with a bold floor-length gown, we’re sure she’ll look stunning. We are talking about Kate, the queen of royal fashion, after all.
