They expected a Christmas baby, but Jon Jones and wife Sarah‘s little boy came on New Year’s Eve instead — and got his parents home in time to see the ball drop.

Son Hudson Lennon Jones arrived on Monday, Dec. 31 at 1:30 p.m. outside of Fort Worth, Texas, the Eli Young Band‘s bass player confirms to PEOPLE exclusively. He weighed in at 7 lbs., 8 oz. and is 21 inches long.

“We are ecstatic about this beautiful baby boy that came into our world,” the couple tell PEOPLE. “Words cannot describe our excitement and joy.”

With their son arriving a week past his due date, “Sarah and I feel very fortunate that we were able to stick to our birth plan and have Hudson naturally,” Jon, 32, explains.

“The birth was extremely smooth. We left our house at 10 a.m. for the birthing center when contractions were four minutes apart and he was born just a few short hours later. We had a great birth team who helped us through everything.”

Mother and son were both healthy and happy, so the trio headed home later that afternoon — and the new dad enjoyed his night off from work.

“The rest of the band went on stage without me for the second time in our careers,” Jon says of his bandmates, who played a scheduled show in Oklahoma that evening. “They are truly great friends for letting Sarah and I share this wonderful experience together. We were home within four hours of the birth to celebrate New Year’s Eve as a family — mostly holding Hudson in amazement.”

As for what the future holds, “We are all still settling in to our new lives and are learning something new every minute,” notes Jon. “I could not be more proud of my wife and could not be a happier father.”

It’s so great to hear about parents and care providers that let nature take its course when there is no reason to intervene! Congratulations to Jon and Sarah! Little Hudson is precious!

Congratulations to the happy family. Hudson is just beautiful and I am thrilled for the family.

I wonder what he meant any ‘naturally’? No drugs perhaps?

Southerngirl on

Sorry for that extra random word in there lol

My Opinion on

@ Southerngirl- Yes, “naturally” means without drugs. So wonderful to hear that their birthing plan went smoothly. I wonder if more celebrities considered a birthing center vs hospital, they’d probably have a heck of a lot more privacy for their new bundles of joy. How cool it must have been to walk in to a birthing center and 4 hours later, get to go home with a brand new baby! Good for them! Congratulations!

Congrats to them! I’m surprised that they wanted to go home so early, though. I would think would have wanted to rest and let the nurses show her the ropes of motherhood first!

yeah, i was a little surprised about going home four hours later. But they probably could afford to have nurses stop by to make sure she is healing okay and that the baby is doing well.

Their midwife and doula will provide postpartum visits to check up and address any concerns or issues. :-)

I think its awesome that they went home so soon after. The best place to rest is your own home, in your own bed. No nurses necessary. No one knows better what a baby needs than his or her own parents. Its instinctual.

Beautiful family and baby boy, congratulations Jones family! An amazing way to bring your child into the world, and such a great name you’ve picked! Couldn’t be more perfect!

She had him naturally, meaning she was not induced and she did not use pain medication. Hope that helps! :)

There aren’t postpartum nurses at birthing centers. And believe it or not, it is far more restful at home in your own bed than being in the hospital. I know…I’ve done it both ways!

Typically, after an out-of-hospital birth, the mother and baby will receive a home visit from her midwife about three days after her birth. Then mom and baby will usually return to the birth center for a follow-up visit at two and six weeks.

Also, midwives are available by phone 24/7 to answer questions and address concerns the parents might have.

It is definitely more restful at home. And the greatest part is, the midwives are available 24/7 by phone if the new parents have any questions or concerns!

Cris on

Sometimes it is more restful at home but that’s not always the case. The part of the article that I thought was funny was that he talked about how smooth the birth was. I want to hear what the mom says. Because even an easy birth is still hard work. Blessings to them for the birth of their baby!

Congratulations to the Jones family! I’m so glad you had a wonderful birth experience. :)
