It’s climb time!

All the world’s a jungle gym to Tobey Maguire‘s 3½-year-old son Otis Tobias, who gets a hand from his doting dad on Thursday while out in L.A.

Also parents to 6-year-old daughter Ruby Sweetheart, The Great Gatsby star and his wife Jennifer Meyer Maguire chose names for their children after they were born — a plan that backfired on the jewelry designer.

“I got an extra form and filled it out and misspelled Otis,” Maguire, 37, told Ellen DeGeneres.

“[I] brought it back to my wife and was acting very innocent. ‘Oh, I’m so excited! It’s official! Look,’ and I handed her the paper.”

I remember when Otis was born and Tobey played the “Oatis” trick on his wife. The horrified look on Jennifer’s face when she saw the form misspelled was priceless!

@ B.J. (the girl) – Meh. . . it all seemed pretty contrived to me. Just sayin’.

most practical jokes *are* contrived; i thought this one was pretty good, although kinda mean. i mean, the kid’s new, mom’s probably frazzled… best timing? don’t think so! lol but it was a cute idea and i really enjoyed their interaction. her FACE!

Joyful on

Don’t fret about it…..Ruby Sweetheart honors Jennifer and the Great Granny who always called Jennifer ,,,, Sweetheart!

@ Jen DC – I don’t mean contrived in the sense that he came up with a joke to play but contrived in how it comes across. Everything came off as artificial or staged to me.

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
