Matt Damon: My Daughters Are All About the Presents

Matt Damon Christmas Holiday Family Plans

By blending their Christmas traditions, the holidays pay off in a big way for Matt Damon and Luciana‘s daughters.

“We do the Latin American Christmas Eve gift opening and we do the American Christmas morning gift opening,”ย the Promised Land actor, 42, told PEOPLE during the film’s premiere on Thursday in Los Angeles.

“We have this weird fusion for Christmas, but I think it just means more gifts for the kids, so they’re into it.”

But aside from the present palooza, Damon’s holiday plans don’t include much more than laying low with his family, including Alexia, 14, Isabella, 6, Gia, 4, and Stella, 2.

“I’m just going to hang out with my kids,” he says. “We’ve been on the Promised Land train a little bit for the last week or so, and we’re looking forward to just settling down.”

Love Matt Damon and his beautiful family.

It’s so cute when he talk about his kids. He’s obviously a loving father.

I like him. I like how he doesn’t put on an act like how he has a perfect family, and how he manages to keep the kids out of the spotlight for the most part.

Who knew I had something in common with Matt Damon! My family also does both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day presents (but I had no idea the former was actually a Latin American tradition until now. You learn something new everyday! :)).

We do “regular” presents on Christmas Eve and “Santa” gifts on Christmas Day! ๐Ÿ™‚

Long on

I didn’t know it was a Latin tradition either! My family has been doing this since I was born! Gifts from mom & dad, christmas eve night then Santa gifts Christmas morning!

What a great man, husband and father. What more could his family ask for ๐Ÿ™‚ Totally awesome

We always did family gifts on Christmas Eve and Santa Claus on Christmas morning as well, and so has my husband’s family. Who cares, he’s adorable no matter what.

He seems down to earth

That is great! We don’t do that but my kids open one present on Christmas Eve and the rest Christmas Day. The one present they open is always pajamas! (they look forward to them every year). My parents did that tradition with us and I am continuing it with my kids! I love family traditions and it sounds like the Damon Family has some wonderful ones:)

I love Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Boston makes nice family-oriented men.

Hope he treats his step daughter as well as his own biological daughters. Children DO notice the difference.

just for your information, gift opening on December 24th is not just latin american. we also open gifts on Christmas eve and it is a Norwegian and Danish custom.

My family has always followed this tradition as well. We would spend Christmas Eve at my grandparents’ home and Christmas at our home, opening presents both nights. He has such a beautiful family.

I think he refers to the Christmas Eve opening as a Latin tradition because of his wife’s origins, Argentina.

He just get more unattractive each year. Who’d of ever thought he would turn out to be such an ugly middle aged man.

He is still as sexy as ever!

I don’t think he looks any older than 42, so not sure what you guys mean by him aging badly. He also changes his appearance a lot for roles, and the last couples roles he played I think the characters were overweight and unattractive, so maybe thats why you guys don’t think he looks great now.

I love this man

Santa lives in Finland on

Santa brings gifts on Christmas Eve in Scandinavia. Matt Damon has some Finnish roots, so he is practising that side of his family too.

P.S. Santa doesn’t live at the North Pole. Google if you don’t believe. Merry Christmas!

Where in this article does it say anything about a christmas surprise for his daughter? Aol misleads people all the time. They have titles of articles and then when you click on them it’s not even about what the title is.

right… good job Matt. So it’s all about the presents? What about the “real reason for the season” and instilling Christ into Christmas for your kids. That would be a bigger blessing for them instead of turning a sacred holiday into a materialistic extravaganza.

Traditionally, In Spain and Latin America, gifts are opened on January 6 (the Epiphany, i.e., the gifts are delivered by the Three Wise Men). December 24 is called Noche Buena…there’s a big dinner, family gathering, etc. And then Midnight Mass or a Christmas Day mass. So Christmas is strictly a family/religious event, while the gift giving/opening takes place in January.

I’m from a country in Latin America and was expecting to read he did gifts on January 6, not Christmas Eve. We never did gifts on CE, nor anyone I knew. Weird. We did, and still do, Santa on Dec. 25 and Three Kings/Wise Men on Jan. 6.
