Courtney Mazza and Gia Celebrate – Together!

09/25/2012 at 02:00 PM ET

Happy birthday Gia Francesa Lopez! The tiny tot celebrated her recent second birthday with Courtney Mazza at LeMont in Mom’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Penn.

“The party had a Minnie Mouse theme and was also my bridal shower,” the former Broadway babe — who will wed Mario Lopez on Dec. 1 — tells PEOPLE. “I opened lingerie with 20 kids around!”

The bash was filmed for the couple’s upcoming TLC reality show. Kids enjoyed fun and educational crafts from BabbaCo’s Babbabox and went home with Itzy Ritzy‘s reusable adorable snack backs filled with personalized labels from Mabel’s Labels.

I can honestly say that it would never cross my mind to combine a bridal shower and child’s birthday party! I wouldn’t want to be opening those kinds of gifts in front of a bunch of kids. I guess that’s one of those “to each their own” kind of things.

Gia is getting so big! I’m loving the pigtails with those big bows! Very cute!

I wouldn’t want to open lingerie in front of a bunch of kids either (heck, I wouldn’t even want to open it in front of my friends, or have them give it to me! In my opinion, a woman should only be given lingerie by her husband, and it should be kept as something special and private for the two of tem!), but I don’t think it’s horrible that Courtney did.

If we were talking about, say, a group of eight-year-old girls, then I’d question her judgetment, but being Gia just turned two they were obviously toddlers. And toddlers almost certainly aren’t going to have a clue what lingerie is, or that it’s a “grown-up” thing.

I’m guessing they likely didn’t even notice it, and at any rate they certainly won’t remember having seen it in a few years’ time, nor will it scar them for life!

That being said, whatever happened to traditional bridal showers? By that I mean the ones where the bride recieves household items, and maybe a cute knick-knack or two. I’m sorry, but to me a bridal shower is about helping the couple feather their nest (even if they’ve lived together for awhile before the wedding and it’s only in the symbolic sense), not about giving the bride something that should be for her and her husband’s eyes only!

I am sorry I have never heard or been to a bridal shower that household gift were given. A bridal shower is about the bride, not the couple. Wedding gift are the household items, towels, toaster, blender, those kind of things. I remember going to a bridal shower that all the gifts were lingerie and yes the bride was blushing, but it was all in fun. To each their own on what they want to do and get.

Kirsha- I guess it’s just a matter of different groups of people doing things differently, then, because I’ve never been to a bridal shower (all of which have been for family members and hosted by other family members) where household gifts WEREN’T given. But like you said, to each their own. 🙂
