Elizabeth Banks: Felix Is a ‘Little Baby Gypsy’

With her career taking her across the globe, Elizabeth Banks is rarely without her favorite travel buddy, 16-month-old son Felix.

“This job requires you to be a little bit of a gypsy, [and] so far he’s totally cool being a little baby gypsy,” the actress, 38, told PEOPLE while promoting the launch of a limited-edition line of Nestlé Crunch Girl Scout Candy Bars in New York.

“We [went] to Paris [for Fashion Week]. He’s getting his first passport stamp.”

But Felix’s comfort is also the first thing the People Like Us star now takes into account when choosing film roles, noting, “You really have to decide, ‘Does that affect my son’s quality of life as well as mine?'”

“If there’s ever a moment where I feel like he needs to be home or he needs a certain something in his life,” she continues, “I’ll make a decision based on that.”

In addition to reaping the rewards of mom’s work perks, Banks also makes sure Felix enjoys everyday childhood adventures, like a celebratory trip to the zoo to mark his first birthday.

“[It] was really fun. Although at the time, he didn’t quite understand what the animals were,” she recalls. “He was really interested in the other kids, much more than the animals.”

“We had this amazing moment where this giant orangutan was hanging right in front of us, and we were like, ‘Look Felix, look at this!'” she continues. “There were two little girls there, and he just wanted to look at the little girls. He didn’t even notice this giant orangutan.”

“Nomad” would’ve been a better word. “Gypsies” nowadays are no longer nomads. The majority of them are settled down like normal people and are living normal lives.

Oh lord, Dahlia. The woman is joking.

eva on

Nomadic peoples are “normal” people, living “normal” lives.

Kate, poor kid? Does she beat him? Starve him? Abanon him for months at a time? No. So, not poor kid.

Re: Kate “poor kid”
Hahahahaha! I nearly died laughing. First of all, poor? In the literal sense, nope! Mom is a famous actress making lots of money! No poor there! With many families struggling to make ends meet Felix is blessed with two financially secure parents. Secondly, some people without narrow minds want to go out to explore and see the world instead of staying in their one town their entire lives. Traveling exposes people to different cultures and customs and normally this is seen as a good thing to parents and people in general! Lucky, lucky Felix! I wish I had such an interesting upbringing!

He was interested in other kids(girls), not the animals. Not cool!

Cassie on

Yes, Pat how dare he. He shouldn’t ever want to socialize and interact with other children ….

The world is SO messed up it’s insane.

Felix sounds so adorable. Bad pic of Elizabeth though.

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
