This article struck a home with me. Yes at times I wish I were at least a little more ‘friends’ with my 19 year old but on the other I know from my own relationship with my mom that now is not the time to be ‘friends’ with my daughter that in time and maturity we will one day be ‘friends’. I guess I am lucky because she does come to me with her problems and questions. But when I lay down the law, (she still lives at home and goes to college) she will get all prissy and we have had our shouting matches, but in the end I am the mother.
I have never seen the shows in this article but I do know firsthand from some of my daughters friends how her friend’s relationship with their kids is more friends than parent child relationship. I think but I am not sure that this could cause a problem in the long run and if it doesn’t well good for them.

The article about the bus driver makes me so angry! She thought it was a “playful thing” to tape a child’s mouth closed?! It makes no difference to me if the child was disabled or not! It’s wildly inappropriate and downright abusive to put tape over a child’s mouth, especially when it’s not your kid!
