Vanessa Lachey Loves Her Baby Bump, Fears Her Belly Button

06/28/2012 at 09:00 AM ET

From form-fitting sweaters to sunset photo shoots, Vanessa Lachey seems to have no qualms about showing off her burgeoning belly as her September due date approaches.

Her belly button, on the other hand, is a growing concern, the first-time mom-to-be, 31, says.

“Everyone’s belly button is different. Some women’s belly buttons pop and some women’s [don't],” she tells Bethenny Frankel on Friday’s episode of Bethenny, referring to the tendency of belly buttons to push outward during the second or third trimester of a pregnancy.

“I thought, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t mind if it popped because then it would be like the turkey’s done, right?’ And it’s cute,” she continues. “But my stylist was like, ‘You don’t want that to pop. That’s like having a third nipple.’”

Now, the Wipeout host, who wed Nick Lachey last summer, admits she’s become a little “paranoid” about her belly button.

“Every time I sneeze, I hold my belly button in,” she says. “For some reason, I think I’m going to sneeze it out.”

Jokes aside, Lachey, who’s having a boy, says she can’t complain about her bump.

“I love everything about being pregnant,” she adds. “It’s empowering as a woman to be able to go through this process and create a human being.”

lmao! Too cute. I remember when my sister was pregnant and I was looking at her bump sans clothing, and I went, “Sis, where’s your belly button? OMG you don’t have a belly button!” I thought it had disappeared with her pregnancy, it was so flat and tight and looked just like the rest of her belly! Hey, I was eight years old. :)

Vanessa seems to have really popped in the last week–her belly, not her belly button! She didn’t look nearly this big in the bikini picture. But she looks great and it’s obvious she feels great.

Hea, I don’t think she’s as big as she appears to be in this particular photo. Vanessa has her back arched a bit and she’s leaning back against the cushions, as well as having her hands emphasizing her belly. All of that combined can make her belly appear bigger than she really is. But even if it wasn’t, everyone carries differently!

She’s huge!

Maybe she just looks so big because she was so thin to start out with. I’m due with my third at the end of September and my belly isn’t as big, but I started out with “more to love” than she did!

She’s not that big actually. Vanessa just visited my friend Rona’s boutique RONA and she says that Vanessa barely looks like she’s almost seven months along. Could just be the fact that she’s arching her back and sticking out her belly to add emphasis into her story.

she looks totally normal for a petite girl, especially sitting sitting down. actually for any woman that looks normal. She looks great and healthy.

I should have added to my post that what looked funny was Bethenney being the interviewer here.

I have to say that I’m relieved to hear she’s having a boy (I was on vacation when the announcement came out, so I didn’t see it until just a couple days ago, and felt silly commenting on it when it was over a week old!). If the baby had been a girl, she and Jessica Simpson’s Maxwell would have been constantly compared (and people likely would have said mean things such as that Maxwell was so ugly compared to Vanessa and Nick’s baby, or vice-versa).

Thank goodness Maxwell and baby Lachey won’t have to deal with that after all! :)

That being said, Vanessa seems so down-to-Earth and funny!

@Anonymous Yes, the may not be compared in a “which little girl is more adorable” sort of way. Instead I suspect we’ll get the “wouldn’t it be interesting if they grow up and date/marry” type of stories.

This show must only be carried in selected areas — although it’s obviously up and running, I can’t find it on my tv listings and I haven’t seen any promos for it on tv…..

I thought that was Rachael Ray for a second there!

Congrats to Vanessa! Loved your show Wipeout!

I doubt anyone would care if her belly button popped out. Her stylist sounds like an idiot to me.
