Adam Sandler: My Clothes Embarrass My Daughters

Adam Sandler has made a career of doing mortifying things, but it’s his life away from set that has daughters Sadie Madison, 6, and Sunny Madeline, 3, blushing.

“I do embarrass them now,” the comedian told PEOPLE during a press conference for his film That’s My Boy, in which he plays Andy Samberg‘s father.

The source of his daughters’ humiliation? Dad’s fashion sense.

“I wear shorts a lot,” Sandler, 45, explains. “And my kids do ask me to put pants on when I go to school. They ask, ‘Could you just one time wear pants?’ And every time I get out of the car, I look down and I go, ‘I got those shorts on! Who’s gonna yell at me?’”

The actor hasn’t enjoyed becoming the source of embarrassment for his girls — “I don’t look forward to it,” he says — even if it doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. The comedian seems to be taking a cue from his own dad’s playbook.

“My father used to wear the same pants for like a week,” Sandler recalls. “And I remember that was like, ‘My friends have been over three times this week, and they’ve seen him in the brown pants [every time]. Can I please convince this guy to get on some blue pants for the day?’”

Still, the dad of two has accepted his latest cringe-worthy role.

“I’m getting older, and it happens,” he says. “You get a little [to the point where] you don’t care as much. I’m definitely at that age.”

That’s hysterical! I can relate – my kids are older than his (8 and 11), but they like to complain about my hair, my age (42), my clothes, the fact that I’m not wearing make-up etc. They say I embarrass them. Too bad!

Don’t worry, Allison, that’s your job as a parent. :)

So down to earth and every parent has probably felt this way.

his movies should embarass them.

Clothes never make the man….If Adam is half the father he appears to be one TV, then his daughters are very lucky little ladies.

Yeha stu? And the millions he’s made off of them should too… (Please note sarcasim…) Grow up and stop drinking the Haterade… lol

I bet his wife is the disciplinarian in the family. Two little girls I can envision have Daddy wrapped around his finger. His movies are hit and miss, but I do think he’s a funny guy and themovie with him, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and other SNL alumni, where they all vacation together with their families is one of my faves. Of all his movies, my all time favorite is 50 First Dates, I could watch that movie several times a year (which I don’t like watching reruns/repeats).

I love him!!!

The few there are???! Jealous much? That’s why he has millions, right? He’s making all that money by people NOT going to see his movies? Okay…..Adam, you’re hilarious and keep them coming!

Love Adam Sandler. Some movies are better than others. But I love all his movies. And his devotion to his family and friends. What a down to earth man. He is a breathe of fresh air in a business filled with phoniness and self importance.
