That first story (Can a 9-year-old be a psychopath?) gave me chills. Very interesting, albeit sad, topic. In all honesty I don’t quite know what to say about it! It raises a lot of questions.

The article about the 9-year was chilling and it reminded me of a child I had in my preschool class last year. 5-year-old who had just about every single characteristic this little boy had from the cold stares and complete lack of empathy to the calculated dramatic switches from charming one second to violent tantrums the next (tantrums that included trying to put another child’s head through the wall and make stabbing motions with sharpened pencils at a child’s throat). There was a point when we had to physically restrain him for anywhere from a hour to THREE out of the four hours of school every day. Awful.
His mom said he was a different child at home, she would make constant excuses, but her constant injuries as well as those of her other children and what therapists saw when they went to the home showed the contrary. I think she was afraid of her own son and didn’t know what to say or do and didn’t want to admit it.
What I disagree with in this article is the idea of a camp where these children are grouped together in order to supposedly receive therapy. Who didn’t see that becoming a disaster? Most of the children were doing worse by the end of the camp… well no crap! Put a group of tiny psychopaths together and all I can see is them feeding off of one another, giving each other ideas and turning each other against one another. I’m surprised none of them ended up seriously hurt.
It’s sad, but I feel for the family of this child. Chances are he will never ever be normal. Never be a kind or feeling person… but what do you do because he’s STILL your child.
