Sharon Osbourne: Grandparenthood Is ‘Overwhelming – In a Good Way’

The feeling of becoming a grandmother is a complicated one to express. Just ask Sharon Osbourne, whose son Jack welcomed his first child, daughter Pearl, with fiancée Lisa Stelly on Tuesday.

“It’s all overwhelming,” Sharon told PEOPLE on Wednesday.

“But in a good way — in a really positive, lovely way. It’s just amazing.”

With Pearl less than 48 hours old, Sharon’s already ready for more little ones she can spoil.

“I’ve got two more girls to marry off,” she says. “There will be more grandkids!”

Although Sharon’s been the most vocal of her family members when it comes to speaking publicly about the new addition to the family, she says the strongest words came from her husband Ozzy.

“[He told Jack,] this is a love that is so special,” Sharon explains. “He said, ‘You will never experience a love like this, other than a father and a daughter. It’s a very, very special love.’”

Sharon’s been surrounded by baby talk all week — in her personal life and in her professional life.

She joined her fellow hosts on The Talk to throw a million dollar baby shower for an audience of 250 expectant moms from all over the country, airing Friday.

In between giving each member everything from upscale strollers to clothing gift certificates, to fine jewelry, Grandma O — as they call her on the show — took a moment to gush about her granddaughter.

“[Pearl's] healthy and gorgeous,” Sharon said during the episode. “It’s like a new life. There’s nothing like it, nothing like to witness it. It’s just an amazing event.”

The mom of three also discussed her soon-to-be daughter-in-law Lisa allowing her into the room during delivery — an experience she will not soon forget.

“You go through every emotion,” she says. “You go through joy and you thank God that everybody is healthy and happy. You realize how lucky you are. It’s like life has gone full cycle in our family.”

Congrats to grandma.

Jac on

I realize that this is her first grandchild from her biological children, but she already had four grandchildren from her stepkids. Technically, she was already a grandmother.

LMAO on

This is such a lovely article. Congrats to the Osbournes :D

I hate when celebs use the word “Lucky”! How can you thank God… and then say that its luck. No your “Blessed” we all are. In any case Congrats Sharon, you are gonna be a GREAT grandmother!!!!

Susan on

Congrats to the family and I agree with Sharon. When my 1st grandchild was born I was so overwhelmed with emotions. Totally different than when my kids were born. Being a Nana is awesome !!!!!

Congratulations to Sharon. Too bad The Talk is where it was announced. I cannot stand that show since they got rid of Leah and Holly. I haven’t watched it since and will NOT watch it.

Grand kids are our gift for not killing our kids…lol

Sharon doesn’t have any stepkids…has been married to Ozzy since forever.

“Osbourne has been married twice and is the father of six children (five biological, and one adopted). He was first married to Thelma Riley (now a teacher in Leicestershire) and adopted her son, Elliot Kingsley (1966); together they had Jessica Starshine Osbourne Hobbs (20 January 1972) and Louis John Osbourne (1975)”

Kristine on

Sharon does have stepchildren – Ozzy was married once before her. He adopted his wife’s child, and they had two biological children together. I have no idea how involved he (or Sharon) is in their lives.

I can only imagine being a grandma from a child you raised, and you get to see all the time, is different than becoming a step-grandma.

She sounds so happy – that’s fantastic!

Millie, Sharon is a stepmother. Ozzy met and married his first wife, Thelma Mayfair, in 1971. Thelma had a five-year-old son, Elliot Kingsley, from a previous marriage, and Ozzy adopted the boy. Together, Ozzy and Thelma had a daughter, Jessica Starshine, in 1973, and a son, Louis Jon, in 1975.

Sharon and Ozzy are going to be fun, loving grandparents. Pearl is definitely going to be a loved little girl. Congratulations to the entire family.

Sharon darlin, if I could just give you a small word of advice which you will never see or comply with if you did. . .but don’t buy the first grandchild EVERYTHING cuz there will be more (as you know) and you’ll be expected to do exactly the same for each. . . and then you’re really overwhelmed no matter how much money you & the Oz have. But you won’t listen, none of us do. . .so just love this little gift while she’s tiny; they grow up so fast. Congratulations and best wishes.

I think Sharon Osborne is a phony who wouldn’t know a good thing if it fell in her lap…God bless the baby, but the granma’s a big bytch!!

Sharon’s hair is the most unnatural color.

Perhaps I’ve missed something, and I heard the video with no mention of it being overwhelming, but how can it be overwhelming when baby is less than three days old? She probably just got out of the hospital.

Pearl is a great blessing to the Osbourne family.
Congratulations to the Osbourne family!

KmH on

Seems to me that she is referring to her feelings of becoming a grandma as overwhelming and in a good way!

Congrats to the family.

KmH- That’s what I think, too!

Anyway, Sharon doesn’t normally bug me, but I have to say that I don’t how she said “I’ve got two more girls to marry off. There will be more grandkids!” What if one or both girls don’t want kids? What if one or both of them ends up having issues with infertility and CAN’T have kids? I understand that Sharon is excited about becoming a grandmother, but she’s putting way too much pressure on her daughters in my opinion!

Deborah on

I am a Step-Grandmother to 6 and I can tell you it is the most wonderful feeling in the world. My own son does not have any children yet but I know that a grandchild is a grandchild and they all either call me Grandma (the older ones)or Nana (little ones. I came into their lives when the youngest at that time was 5 and now it is 12 years later! Congrats Osbourne family!

Meghan on

Congrats to the Osbourne family!!! Pearl is a beautiful, classic name. The Osbourne’s will be amazing grandparents and I’m sure Jack is an amazing father.
