Re: the NYTimes article, are these people crazy? I have used nothing but natural products like California Baby on my almost 3 year old, but have spent less in her entire life than they claim to spend in one month. These products still contain chemicals and things that can cause allergies, and I can’t believe these parents are dumping so many products on their children’s little bodies. Not every health and beauty need has to be solved with chemicals. We treated cradle cap with olive oil and wiped her bottom with plain water. This is a case of super consumers finding another excuse to consume.

I agree with Steph. I also use only California Baby. I bought a 17.5 oz bottle of shampoo/body cleanser when my son was 1. He turns 3 in a few days and it just ran out. How much are these women buying and why do they need so much?!

I wash my hair with baking soda or a apple cider vinegar solution. I condition my hair with olive or coconut oil and I lotion with coco butter or pure shea. I try to make my own soap from oatmeal from time to time. All very cheaply! I think what we use for hygiene products are much easier to monitor than what we put into our bellies. Spending loads of money on baby products just seems silly to me and these companies seem borderline exploitative.
