Essence Atkins Welcomes Son Varro

Essence Atkins and her husband Jaime Mendez got the best present they could have asked for on Christmas Day — a son.

“Found [happiness] … our 1st baby, a beautiful healthy boy, was born on Christmas Day! #blessing,” the Are We There Yet? actress, 39, Tweeted Tuesday. The baby is reportedly named Varro.

He’s the first child for the couple, who were married in September 2009 after meeting on Match.com.

Atkins had a relatively painless pregnancy up until the final weeks, she writes.

“I’m convinced the last month of pregnancy prepares [you for] no sleep when the baby arrives. Ugh, I’ve been awake 21 hours,” she Tweeted recently.

For curiosty’s sake, I clicked on where it says “a son”, and it turns out that Essence’s baby boy was born right on his due date (the earlier article linked to mentions that she was due “on Christmas Day”)! Congrats to her and her husband, and I hope we get to here the name and see pictures soon!
