My daughters (and my son…and my husband and I) love LEGOs…but hate the girls line (they didn’t like the Bellville line years ago and don’t like this new Friends line) because they’re not really LEGOs to build with…they’re more like Polly Pockets. The characters aren’t regular LEGO minifigures and the houses, tables, chairs, etc. aren’t individual pieces you build and play with…they’re pre-molded. I think LEGO is missing the mark on this and girls are missing out on the confidence and smarts developed when building something for yourself. It’s a shame.

Come on LEGO! Seriously? Why does every toy have to scream “for boys” or “for girls?” Why not just give your kids blocks? Why pander to the assumption that girls will only play with certain toys that are “girly enough” for her? Or better question; why pander to the adults who will only buy girls “boy toys” when they’ve been pinked up. Way to raise the bar…
