Will the New Year mean a new baby for Nick Lachey and his wife Vanessa?

“I don’t think there’s necessarily any timetable for it,” Nick told PEOPLE while at Tostitos’ Party with a Purpose to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“We’re definitely excited about being parents at some point, but I think whenever that happens, we’ll embrace it and be excited for it,” says the singer, 38.

“There’s no real sense of urgency at this point.”

While the couple has no immediate plans to start a family of their own, the newlyweds are excited to spend the holidays with Nick’s clan in Cincinnati.

“It’s our first Christmas as a married couple, so we’re looking forward to that,” Nick says.

During their trip, the Lacheys will be throwing an ugly sweater party to kick off the holiday celebrations.

“[Vanessa] went shopping for my sweater yesterday,” says The Sing Off host. “From what I’ve seen in pictures, it’s pretty heinous.”

Out of the two (Jessica and Nick), I was always more of a Nick fan. Nick and Vanessa seem very in love and happy. I wish them the best…and I think they will make great parents when it happens…

I like that they seem to be leaving whether or not to have a baby up to God (or nature, fate, or chance if you prefer to use one of those terms instead). 🙂

I hope they don’t because they’re both so boring and lame.

Lucy obviously not if you took the time to read this AND comment on it.

” no urgency to have kids ” aka… ” we’ve been trying for months and nothing is happening “. I foresee testing and surrogacy in their future

If you’ve been having unprotected sex for over year without becoming pregnant, you are infertile. You can call it “leaving it up to nature”. It doesn’t change what it means.

Jessica made a huge mistake by letting this one go. Since then she can’t get a man who respects her, that NFL guy she used to date would bang chicks in the same bed he used to share with her, on and on and on! Right now she’s knocked by a dead-beat guy who hasn’t had a job for like 5 years according to some reports.

I agree with Anon. They sounded like they were trying hard before. Nothing is happening so they have to play it down. Too bad all married celebs get hounded about this.

Nick and Vanessa………..Who cares??!!!! I mean, really! Someone PLEEZZZEEE tell me, they’re famous (as of recent) for???? Yep…Not a darn thing!!! : /

Um, did I miss something somewhere? Where in the article did he say that they were having unprotected sex? To assume infertility is pretty dramatic.

Kat- And what doess Jessica Simpson have to do with this post? Yes, she was once married to Nick, but that was close to seven years ago and both have very clearly moved on with their lives.

That out of the way, Nick and Vanessa might very well be struggling with infertility, or they might simply have, as Nick put it, no urgency to have kids. Either way, it’s really none of our business! I wish Nick and Vanessa the best of luck in their marriage, whether or not kids are in the cards!

If they ARE having problems conceiving, then he is WONDERFUL for saying there’s no rush / no pressure.

you know what? by the way they are saying things, she could be pregnant already. they didn’t say it’s not happening, or we are still trying, so my guess, maybe she is pregnant. i hope so. he seems like a good person and she seems good for him.

maybe… just maybe…. they are trying to say they are just enjoying each other and their marriage for now and not in a hurry to TRY to have children. its that simple! amazing how we can twist something into something else that is just simply said.

I think they’re lessening their chances of becoming parents by waiting (She’s 30, he’s 38; a few more years of waiting and they my not be able to have kids, period), but if that’s what they want to do, good for them. They seem happy together.

I think Jessica’s problem was she relied too much on daddy. I honestly believe Joe had a lot to do with her split from Nick, but that’s just me. They both have moved on and seem very happy with their current significant others. The best of luck to all of them.

Jessica and Nick have both moved on to partners better suited for them. And Vanessa is 30, not 40, no need for dire predictions of infertility if they don’t conceive today.
