Jessica Simpson: I Think I’m Having a Girl!

Jessica Simpson and fiancΓ© Eric Johnson are pretty sure they know what to expect when they’re expecting — if only they could agree.

“I think it’s a girl,” Simpson, 31, told PEOPLE at the New York launch of a clothing line that she and sister Ashlee Simpson created. “But I don’t know yet.”

“I think it’s a boy,” says Johnson, who was on hand at Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York along with future mother-in-law Tina Simpson. “We’re pretty much at a standstill there.”

But the couple plans to find out the sex of their baby.

“I don’t think we can wait,” says the former NFL player, 32.

“Jessica is too honest about everything, she needs to know. I don’t think she can hold that secret to herself.”

Even if she’s wrong about the baby’s gender, Simpson promises her child will be well dressed.

“If it’s a boy,” she quips, “I’ll put him in tutus!”

She sure looks far enough along to have a gender scan if she really wants to know…

Alexandra on

When is her due date? I found out at 19 weeks pregnant that I was expecting a boy ( knew it all along πŸ˜‰ ).

Rachel on

I don’t know how far along she is, but sometimes that doesn’t matter. If a baby doesn’t cooperate at a given ultrasound, you’ve gotta wait until the next.

Ashley on

Jessica looks very pretty here! :] but I sure hope she doesn’t put a boy in tutus! lol

Alise on

She thinks it’s a girl, probably because that what she wants.

Angela on

She is soooooooooo having a boy.

I’m having my scan next week (18 wks) and this is my 2nd pregnancy and I swear she looks further along than me. Kid #1 didn’t cooperate last time but we just paid to do the scan again. I’m sure she could afford it, if that was the reason.

You can usually find out the gender as early as 16 weeks, and some people have literally found out as early as 12/13 weeks, but as Rachel already said, the baby doesn’t always cooperate. lol! My sister had to wait until 24 weeks to find out the gender! She had a boy, but apparently he was shy! And with her second baby, a girl, they weren’t 100% sure until 24 weeks as well. At around 15/16 weeks, they told her she was having a boy, but they were wrong.

She looks great! And @River is right, sometimes the baby just doesn’t cooperate! And Jess didn’t say she’s not far along enough to tell the gender, just that she hasn’t yet!

Best of luck to her!

Ashley what is wrong with a tutu on a boy? My boy loves them as well as those wings all the kids seem to like.

Girls are so much fun! Boys are too of course :). I found out at exactly 16 weeks with my son and with 14 weeks 3 days with my daughter! They are now 6 and 18 months.

she looks really big so surely she could have found out already? Maybe she didnt want to know and then changed her mind. I’m 21 weeks pregnant now and I was so sure I was having another boy.. but nope! It’s a girl so mother’s intuition isnt always right πŸ™‚

I think Jessica is having a girl as well. I think she will be a loving mom and wish her and fiancee all the best.

I’m sure Ashley meant no offense with her tutu comment. Here we go with the “my son loves feminine items” comments. Oh those wacky boys are such free spirits. (rolls eyes)

Pamela- Not only that, but she also said that they ARE going to be find out the gender (and soon, too, as another article I read about this said they mentioned they’ll be finding out sometime this coming week). Anyway, I hope it’s a girl. Mainly because Ashlee has a little boy, so it would be cute to see what a baby girl Simpson would look like. πŸ™‚

Also, Jessica’s belly looks a lot smaller in this picture than it has in other recent ones. Yet no one accuses her of faking her pregnancy the way they do Beyonce (and one of the main reasons people say that about Beyonce is because her belly seems to go from big to small)! Go figure!

Elise on

I think it’s a girl too.

I think 14/15 weeks is the earliest you can find out about the gender since male and female genitals look similar before that time. Here’s a great link about the embryo development:

I tried to find out my boy’s sex at 16 weeks and he refused to show it by crossing his legs. Silly guy. I had a detailed ultrasound scan 3 weeks later and then he couldn’t wait to present himself…as well as during all the other ultrasounds later…just as if to show that we weren’t mistaken πŸ˜‰

You get three basic ultrasounds here in Germany during your pregnancy. But many doctors (mine for example) scan during every visit. The doctor can also prescribe a detailed ultrasound scan (mine always does that no matter if you have a high risk pregnancy or noty) – or you can get one without doctor’s prescription ( you’ll have to pay it tho ). I had to stay in the hospital for two weeks ( week 29-30 ) due to premature labor and I got scanned 3 times ( with 3D pictures…yay ).

There’s no such thing as ultrasound fear over here. The ultrasound devices are safe and many studies show that as long as you don’t scan too often ( like every day ) there is no way the kids get affected by it. My doc usually scanned for about 3-5 minutes, checking the size of the head and femur and the amount of amniotic fluid.

Mya, if her son WANTS to wear a tutu it’s fine, but it’s pretty cruel to make a boy wear tutus if he doesn’t want to . . .

Angela on

I really thinks he is having a boy. I would be surprised if it was a girl!

Amy on

Well I’m sure of one of them is right!

Anonymous on

dsfg- Luckily for Jessica, for the first couple of years of her baby’s life, he or she isn’t going to care what s/he wears. πŸ™‚ And for what it’s worth, I have a feeling that Jessica was joking. If she DOES have a boy, I’m guessing she’ll dress him similar to the way Ashlee dresses Bronx.

Angela on

I’m thinking a boy for them.

Lisa on

I found out the gender of my twins at 12 weeks. I dont know if the ultrasound was different since it was a multiple pregnancy or if that is how they are all done but the tech was confident and sure of gender and right on the money! Xx and xy.

SAR on

I bet she wants a girl, and that’s why she thinks that’s what it is. Similarly, I bet the baby’s father wants a boy, so he thinks that’s what it is.

Either way, I’m sure the baby will be loved a lot.

Dee on

Huh??? If you don’t find out there’s no secret to keep.

Dee on

and grown up and get over the need for instant gratification.

Anonymous on

Dee- I think what Eric means is that Jessica will probably opt to share the gender with the public…because she won’t be able to keep it to herself.

kimmie on

I am glad she is finding out if she wants to know. I know many people that “dont want to find out” but spend months agonizing whether it’s a boy or girl.

Kendal on

I thought I read somewhere that she was finding out this last Monday, but haven’t read anywhere about it since the day has passed. I hope she has a girl. It would be neat for each sister to have to have one of each.

kim on

i had 3 ultrasounds tell me it was a boy–the amino told me girl—ultra sounds are 100% as all the labor and deliver nurses told me–they all were giving me crap for my answer when they asked if i knew the gender–they all sut up real fast when i said amino πŸ™‚

its all good though–boy or girl- we would have taken either..

Avery on

I found out at 13 weeks what we were having. The us tec said she knew and she was right! I was shocked they knew that early, especially since it was a girl!

Avery on

By the way, she looks like she’s having a girl.
