$105?!?! Jeez! Go down to your nearest Michael’s or Hobby Lobby, pick up some Cascade 220 and some cheapo needles, and then find free patterns online; make the same item for a quarter of the price.

I have some family who laugh at me for knitting gifts and then they go out ad spend a ton of money on “fancy” store bought knitted items. Whatever floats your boat I guess but in the long run I save a lot of money on my own projects.

these kits are so ridiculously overpriced it isn’t funny. Even with good quality wool, natural fibers, etc. What a rip off! And it isn’t as if these patterns are special. at all. basic stuff that you can get on Ravelry for free or a few dollars (patterns) and the wool, check out knitpicks or your LYS or a chain craft store and you’ll see that for $20 or less you can knit any of these items. Furthermore, nowadays knitting is not necessarily cheaper than store bought stuff, but these knit items are 3-4x marked up from what they would even cost to buy pre-maid.

Any REAL knitter would go to that site and CHOKE…$74 to make fingerless gloves? $79 to make a kid’s scarf? Um maybe those prices to make a whole family knit hats, mittens, and scarves….but for one? You have to be kidding me!

Yikes! Those prices! Even if I made this in high quality, hand painted yarn, with fancy wood needles I wouldn’t have to pay those prices, and yarn is expensive where I live! Nah, I think I’ll stick to just going to the yarn shop.

Ok… I get that people are on a budget these days and I respect that. However, I’m so tired of America working its way to the inexpensive poor house. Give artist/designers some LOVE. There’s a Michaels and a Walmart in just about every town you can shop at if you want that cheap yarn and cheesy patterns. WATG is using Wool that is hand spun and hand dyed, and… from what I saw at Steven Alan, are styles that are totally heirloom worthy. Come on America, step it up and stop being so darn cheap.

Robert Jungmann – you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. You can get fantastic yarn (yes, handspun and handdyed!) for a fraction of the price these people are offering. I’m a total yarn snob and I would never pay these ridiculous prices for this stuff. 69 bucks to make a kid-sized snood? I could make that with a $20 skein of Malabrigo or Madeleinetosh and I promise you it’d be nicer. Sheesh.

Ditto,Sarah Beth! Knitting is not cheap, esp. as it has increased in popularity. However, Wool and the Gang mark-ups are, at a minimum 5x — and there is little ‘artistry’ in their patterns. They are basic.

I take exception to Robert’s claim that those who balk at Wool and the Gang’s overpriced patterns/wool are cheap. No, I am not cheap, but just inflamed by someone taking advantage of knitting novices while adding nothing novel artistically or design based. Please, Robert, enlighten me on the novelty of this offering beyond their selling a heavily marked-up kit.

I love the elitist attitude — so those of us who know how to select wool and follow a pattern on our own are Walmart shoppers using cheesy patterns.
