Nia Long is a mom again!
The actress, 41, and Ime Udoka welcomed son Kez Sunday on Monday, Nov. 7, her rep confirms to the Associated Press.
“Both mother and child are healthy and happy to be home,” spokeswoman Priscilla Moralez says.
The Soul Food and Love Jones star also has a 10-year-old son, Massai, from a previous marriage.
Long and Udoka, a professional basketball player, announced the pregnancy in June.

I like the name. Not sure what it means, but I’m sure it means something. Sounds ethnic to match Ime. I don’t know about Sunday for a boy though. …sounds feminine, might be because of Sunday Kidman though.

There’s obviously ethnic background to it but we have to wait till she tells. In my native Kenya, Maasai is a group of people – an ethnic group – who are actually quite popular with tourists for their eccentric look. In Swahili, we shorten the name Kezia to Kez however Kez is a girl’s name so couldn’t be what she was after. Her boyfriend is Ghanaian so they may have their own meaning behind the word Kez. Anyway, a rose is still a rose… Congrats!

@soco Kez is a name. It’s her son’s name. Her son whose father is African. Just because it’s not a “common” American name doesn’t mean it’s a bad name.

I do love when children are named after family. This is a wonderful tribute to the babies paternal grandfather, who passed away five yes ago this month. Now baby, daddy and aunt all share the middle name.

Kez might be short for something in Igbo. From her husband’s name, particularly the last name, I can tell that his family (or at least his father) is Igbo, one of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Maybe Nia started labor on a Sunday? That would dovetail with another Nigerian habit – a lot of our English names are less-common pronouns or nouns.
Days of the week is an example: Sunday, Monday are the most common, and names like God’s-will, Goodhouse (Uloma), Valentine, Peace, Success, etc. And sometimes, really esoteric ones like Romanus and Polycarp…which is why I don’t mind that my parents never gave me an English name. Guess it’s just strange depending on your background!
