Essence Atkins Thrilled to Be a Mother Later in Life

Just call it a mother’s intuition.

Although Essence Atkins and husband Jaime Mendez didn’t have babies on the brain, it didn’t take much for the actress to realize their family was expanding.

“It’s funny, we weren’t trying. I just looked in the mirror one morning at my body and it looked different,” the Are We There Yet? star tells Essence.com.

“I stood in front of my husband and said, ‘Honey, I think I’m pregnant.’”

The couple will welcome their first child — whose sex is being kept a secret — on Christmas Day and although Atkins, 39, is embarking on the journey of motherhood later in life, the timing couldn’t be better.

Bryce Dallas Howard put her belly on display in a Dolce & Gabbana gown at the 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala, held Monday in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The Help actress, 30, and husband Seth Gabel are currently expecting their second child — and 4½-year-old son Theo‘s bets are on a girl! The couple, however, aren’t sharing.

“The thing that every parent hopes for is that the baby’s healthy, I’m healthy. No matter how you feel, that’s the most important thing,” she told PEOPLE.

Natalie Morales Makes Her House a Family Home

Three years ago, Natalie Morales found herself in the midst of complete chaos.

Not only was the Today show anchor on the verge of welcoming her second child with husband Joe Rhodes, but the couple were also rushing to wrap up the complete remodeling of their Hoboken, N.J. home.

“We gutted everything … walls, bathroom, everything is different. It was beautiful before, but dark and heavy and traditional,” Morales, 39, tells PEOPLE of the family’s brownstone.

“This was my other baby. We were on a deadline. I was all hormonal and upset. [Everyone] had to get out of here before Sept. 5 — I would not have a newborn in an [unfinished] house.”

Fortunately, the deadline was met — Luke Hudson was born only four days later — and the family of four, including elder son Josh, 7, have been enjoying their renovated home ever since.

Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney Expecting Second Son

It’s an Always Sunny baby boom!

Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney are expecting their second child this spring, the couple tell PEOPLE exclusively. The new addition will join big brother Axel Lee, 13 months.

“We’re having a boy! We’re so happy that Axel gets to have a brother so close in age. And that I get to add another set of balls to my very, very male world,” the actress, 36, jokes.

“We found out I was pregnant during my mom‘s birthday weekend in Ojai. I was instantly so proud of this baby for already knowing how to make someone else’s special day all about him.”

Married since September 2008, Olson and McElhenney, 34, star on the hit FX sitcom, which has seen its on-set family grow quite a bit over the last year.
