Rebecca Romijn: Dolly Is Petrified of Pumpkins

Tommaso Boddi/WireImage

She used to love to participate in the yearly fright fest, but since welcoming her twin daughters, Rebecca Romijn prefers to keep Halloween totally family friendly.

“I’ve always gone really scary [and] put a Grim Reaper in the corner with a low light over it, but you can’t do that with kids,” the Possessing Piper Rose star, 38, says during a Monday appearance on The Talk.

“You know how you can go in two different directions for Halloween? Really scary or really cute Halloween — I’m now going really cute Halloween!”

Although Dolly and Charlie, 2½, have already planned their costumes — a princess and a cowboy — Romijn admits they’re not completely sold on all of the holiday’s festivities.

“I’ve been taking them to get manicures and [Dolly's] been painting her nails black,” she reveals. “All of a sudden [she] decided that everything Halloween is too scary. She’s been taking all of the pumpkins off the porch and putting them on the side of the house.”

Debuting a toned and slim figure, Romijn shares she recently shed her final pregnancy pounds.

“I’d gotten very fluffy for the whole childbearing experience. You do that when you get pregnant, and then you find out you’re having twins, then you’re nursing them for eight months, and then you’re finishing up their meals,” she explains.

“I had forgotten how much I was really supposed to be eating … and then fast food started making its way into their diets and I felt like I was getting lazy about food preparation.”

Ultimately, Romijn turned to a healthier diet and Bikram yoga to reach her goal. “I cut out starch, dairy and sugar for the last few months,” she says. “It’s been hard.”

As mom Romijn achieves her weightloss goal, the girls are hitting a milestone of their own: potty training! “I’m doing something that I shouldn’t be doing, which is bribing them with M&M’s,” she laughs. “But it’s do or die at this point!”

However, Dolly and Charlie are only willing to accept the sweet treat on their own terms!

“I’m like, ‘If you go pee pee on the potty, you get an M&M,’ and they keep going, ‘On a plate?’” she shares. “So every time they go I get the biggest plate I can find [and] put one in the middle of it.”

Possessing Piper Rose airs Monday at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.

I love her! Her family is so freaking adorable. I hate that tv show, though. They definitely jumped the shark when they made changes. They turned it from a really interesting, funny show (for daytime) and made it too painfully boring and awkward to bother with.

The M&M thing is weird. But wow she looks great – much younger than she had been looking lately.

- Shannon on

I love RR – and the kid stories sound like everyone else’s family, making her even more likable. However, I have to agree with Kayte – that show is boring. I never watch it.

- i need a name on

Shannon- It’s called rewarding good behavior. It isn’t weird. Hey! Whatever works right!

- Crystal on

It’s called Positive reinforcement and is totally normal to use and is even taught to educators and is in parenting books.

you wouldn’t work for free would you?

- Cheryl Metrick on

I think the title saying her daughter is “petrified” of pumpkins is a little misleading. She’s not petrified of pumpkins. Listen to the interview…she just doesn’t want them on the porch anymore. She’s not running around terrified and crying because she sees a pumpkin.

- jen on

Actually the M&M reward is something that has been done for potty training for a long time. They get just one when they go. A form of positive reinforcement as someone else stated. Not weird at all.

So I guess no one else thinks manicures for 2 year olds is alittle much? When my daughters were toddlers I encouraged them to get dirty because after they got ” big” they could do big girl things.

- Belle on

Manicures at age 2?

- Belle on

Jen, really? You truly felt the need to clarify that?

- Monie on

And to the bitter women on here criticizing her for getting her daughters manicures, no I don’t think its weird at all… My daughter’s two, and if she even showed the slightest interest in mani/pedis, I could totally imagine me sitting with them, painting their toenails, or something…

Get over it.

- Monie on

Love RR & her family too! Yes, I feel “The Talk” already jumped the shark as well. They put so much on being “Mothers” & got Marissa Jaret Winokur exited or was booted right away.

Now, with Leah & Holly gone, just not the same. Now, they even have people host that are not Mothers.
Their main hosts are missing all of the time, just got bad.

- Marie on

i like her too. she looks really different though this last year like she had cheek implants. loved her series they cancelled “witches of eastwick” and ‘pepper dennis’, they seem to cancel alot of good shows.

- cj on

Belle,
Don’t you think it’s possible to get dirty and get manicures? Little girls often love to have their nails painted. Most moms probably do it themselves, but RR can certainly afford to have them done by a professional. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I doubt it’s a scheduled weekly event. It doesn’t prevent them from playing like every other child.

- Kayte on

What’s wrong with getting a mani at 2? My friend has a little girl and she lives out of state away from family and never has a sitter because her husband is in the military. So when she goes to treat herself she has them paint her daughter’s nails too, to keep her occupied.

I’m totally not a fan of RR or her husband, but they do seem like great parents. People just want to complain about something.

- Jesse on

Had I known this was a clip from “The Talk” I wouldn’t have even clicked on it. I refuse to watch it since Leah and Holly have left. Blech!

- Lori on

I doubt it’s a full on manicure, just probably gets her nails painted. That is super cute. I do think it’s odd that a two 1/2 year old moves pumpkins off the front porch to the side of the house, though – seems a bit spoooooooky. :)

- Sharon on

Come on, editors, really? One is petrified not petrified OF something.

- smiavs on

I used to love the show but haven’t watched since the 1st week of the 2 season. Just isn’t good w/o Holly and Leah.

I don’t see anything wrong with painting a little girl’s nails as long as it is just for fun.

As far as M&M’s — I remember doing that over 25 yrs. ago. It worked.

- jackie on

This cracked me up a little because it actually reminded me very much of my sister. She has done a fantastic job with my 3-1/2 year old niece and it sounds like she and RR are very alike in what they do with their children.

When she started potty training, my sister also used the M&M bribe along with stickers and things. When my niece would go on the potty, as a job well done she would get one M&M or a sticker. This way she didn’t have that many M&M’s in one day, but the point behind the idea, is that the reinforcement really worked. Every time she would go “like the big girls do” she would be so excited and so thankful when she got her treat.

And also with the manicures – my sister has always gotten her nails and toes done, so every now and again, NOT EVERY time, but quite a few times, she and my niece have gone together on mommy & daughter dates to get mani’s & pedi’s. It’s a perfectly safe and FUN thing for them to do together and I know my niece just adores it. I mean for goodness sake, they’re only painting her nails. I can’t wait to be able to do those things with my little girl.

I’ve never commented on this site before, but seeing the comments about people never hearing of using M&Ms for potty training, I must comment. My daughter and my best friend’s daughter were both potty trained by M&Ms. It’s very effective if that is a reward your child is interested in.

- Heather on

M&M’s on a plate…LOL

- Terri on

love the “on a plate?” comment, hehe

- CTBmom on

We potty train with M&M’s too. They are small treats so not too much sugar and exciting because it’s something they’d never get otherwise. Also with the manicure comments.. seriously?! Who doesn’t paint their 2yo’s nails lol. Whenever I do mine (a few times a week) my 2yo insists on theirs being done too. I don’t see the issue. Her girls probably just get their nails trimmed and painted.

- evie on

I need to THANK GOD then for my son, he is now almost 18, but when he was about one and a half I purchased this little video on how to potty in the potty and then I purchased a small childs portable potty…my goal was that after about 6 months of him seeing the video and potty that he would be close to being potty trained. Well, just one month while watching the video I see him take off his pamper and go sit on the potty and he pee’d just like the bear did in his potty on the video, I clapped so hard and got so excited….well, he hasn’t been in pampers since this. I know I know, I am a lucky one, I did not even have to teach him, he watched that video and copied it. Wow, how easy it was.
