Looks like Kelis may have a party in her tummy!

The singer brought son Knight, 2, to meet the Yo Gabba Gabba! gang at the Vans x Yo Gabba Gabba shoe launch, held Thursday at Kitson Kids in Los Angeles.

“It’s hard being a working, single mother,” Kelis, 32, has said since her split with Knight’s father, rapper Nas.

“On the flipside, it’s awesome, too. You only have to worry about yourself. It’s only your influence and your ideas. I’m raising Knight how I think he should be raised.”

Yes, I agree, being a single mother is hard. It’s also harder for the single moms with a REGULAR job who can’t afford nannies or luxuries like Kelis can. This woman is most likely rich from her music career and doesn’t have to rely on a 9-5 job to pay the bills and live pay check to pay check. I’m sure she can bring Knight to work with her too when recording, so that’s another advantage she has that most working moms don’t.

I realize it’s hard being single, but I had to roll my eyes at her comment because she has it much easier than “normal” working moms.

What, her son is 2 now?! Time sure does fly. He’s a cutie!

Handsome littlel fella.

Even though she’s rich, she does have to also deal with all the boys in the yard coming for her milkshake.

this is a celebrity baby blog people. of course these people have money. i see no where in here where these celebs say “being a single mom is hard, and i should know, because im what an AVERAGE single mom looks like”. shes not saying her struggles are the same as single moms living in poverty, or even working class. im sure middle class single moms have it way easier than working class moms, and so on up the pay scale.

im sure kelis is talking about the challenges of raising her son without his father figure, being “on” all the time, finding a way to balance the guilt of working v. mothering (probably this guilt balance is even higher for single moms than “regular” working moms). THIS is what she means by challenging, im sure. shes not saying she tries to compare herself to poor single moms. same thing goes when celebs saying being a working mom is hard.

yes, they have help and money, but its not like those things take away the guilt or longing to be with your kids. you dont need to vilify the celeb for every opinion and feeling they have and voice. geez.

Her son does have a father figure, his father. She makes it seem like he doesn’t exist..Nas said in an interview that Kelis lets him see his son when she feels like it, so i’m sure he would like to be more involved. And she has said herself that she doesn’t have any money, but she get an obcene amount of money per month from Nas, so i’m sure she’s fine. He’s cute though.

tlc, there’s always someone who has it harder than you – that’s just life. But, that certainly doesn’t mean Kelis’ life is perfect all of the time. Someone always has it worse than you, so by your standards no one could ever say anything negative. After all, the working class single moms have it so much easier than the jobless single moms and so on and so forth, right?

- Sarah K. on

Why does she make it seem like Nas just isn’t around….when he is? I can’t stand when women act like that, so annoying.

Anyways, Knight is so super cute, looks just like his daddy!

“Looks like Kelis may have a party in her tummy!” – Can somebody explain to me what that sentence means?!? At first I thought they were saying she was pregnant again but from reading the rest of the article I see she isn’t, maybe it has something to do with Yo Gabba Gabba??

- Anonymous on

Yes, the kid has a father. And Nas has a say about how Knight sould be raised. So saying “I’m raising Knight how I think he should be raised” is not a considerate comment.

- Liz on

@anonymous…party in my tummy is a song from the TV show. Knight is a cutie, he looks a lot like Kelis. How come people try to pick apart anything someone famous says? Its not that serious. She is a single mom and it is hard. Period! It doesn’t matter if his dad lives next door. Im assuming she works more(meaning more hours & lots of travel) than the average mother anyway, so why jump on her if its hard for her(not you!) to raise her child. You have no idea what it is like to live someone else’s life. Don’t compare apples to oranges.

- Lillian on

I personally can’t stand Kelis. A child, especially boys, needs his father. Although I wasn’t in that relationship and don’t know all the details, I think it’s a shame to shut your ex out of your son’s life when he’s a good man yet still dance to the bank with that monthly alimony check.

Part of being a good parent is understanding that both parents having an active role is best when possible. Just my opinion..

- bones_addict on

She sounds so selfish. Why I know women who are single mothers have to go through a lot, if there is man that wants to be involved and co-parent them let them. SMH ” I’m raising Knight how I think he should be raised”.

Honestly, I now think she may have married Nas and gotten pregnant just for the pay day smh. Geesh she’s really starting to fitting that rumor about the “bird” from Harlem that is out to “collect a check”. If Nas has to go through all of this he probably would have been better off staying with his daughters mother and all her DRAMA

- t.roberts on

No wonder Nas dumped her!

- Shannon on

I’m not saying that she doesn’t have it hard…maybe she feels she does. But come on, she is a recording artist no? She has an ex who wants to spend time with his son that would certainly help her out. She is choosing to go it alone.

I get that being single is hard, I see women struggle every single day in my career.

All I meant is that she doesn’t have to worry about money or where the next meal is coming from, she doesn’t have to worry about her welfare check being late or her bills being paid. I’ve seen some really struggling women and believe me, she most likely has it good compared to them.
