In my opinion, the tattooed Barbie is horrible. But quite frankly, I think Barbie altogether is horrible and sets a bad example.

It is a collector doll. 50.00 is an expensive barbie to let your 4 year old destroy. As a tattooed mommy it doesn’t bother me.

I love this line on the Barbie article: “If I give it to [my daughter] she will think [tattoos are] okay. She may want to go get some,”

You know, if you don’t give it to your daughter she may STILL think tattoos are okay, and she may STILL want to go get some! Either way she won’t be getting it at six years old!

The people really setting the bad example are the parents who are complaining. Appearance does not make somebody a good or bad person. Tattoos and dyed hair are not a bad thing, and nobody should be teaching their children to judge people who have them.

I have no coloring in my hair, no tattoos, and just pierced ears, but that is because it is what *I* want to look like. I don’t judge people based on what they look like, I judge them based on character. And I know some people that are tattooed and pierced, but the nicest people you will ever meet. I think it’s more important to focus on teaching your child to be tolerant of others, and open minded, rather than worrying whether or not they will get tattooed. I doubt having a tattooed barbie doll will really change their opinions on getting tattoos anyway, since most kids stop playing with Barbies near like 6, and are nowhere old enough to get one.

All that aside, I agree with Maryanne. I would never give this to a child, as it is too expensive and I wouldn’t want her to ruin it. I would get a much cheaper, non-collectors barbie at target and let her play with that.

Erika well put! And at that price, why would one give it to a child?

My daughter recently got a tattoo. She just turned 19. I always wanted one but I could never think of anything that I wanted that would remain with me FOREVER! That is until my mother who was also my best friend passed away! I knew right away what I wanted, A butterfly tattoo. My mother loved butterflies and every spring and fall she would buy the butterfly habitats and involve her grandchildren. So I went with my daughter and got one too. My daughter’s is also a butterfly and flowers. Along with us getting a tattoo, my Aunts also got butterflies. (One is a religious teacher/pastors wife~!) Although we all got different butterflies, they all represent something special to each of us. Just as I am sure that is a reason most people get tats.

NEVER judge a book by its cover!!!!
