Beyoncé Is Feeling ‘Very Empowered’ Pregnant

Frank Micelotta/PictureGroup

Beyoncé doesn’t just have that pregnancy glow. It’s more like a megawatt luminescence.

“It’s been great. I feel free. I feel very empowered,” the singer, 30, tells ET Canada of her pregnancy in an interview airing Thursday night.

After so many rumors over the years that she and Jay-Z were expecting, Beyoncé was a bit daunted by finally confirming that she was pregnant – but says the big reveal at the MTV Video Music Awards worked out great.

“I was just wondering how it’s going to be when one day I am pregnant and everyone’s like, ‘Oh God, I don’t want to hear this again,’” she says.

“But I’m happy that people were happy and I actually didn’t announce it in a statement. I said it’s better to just show everyone.”

Beyoncé showed off her Roberto Cavalli maternity style Wednesday at the launch of her new fragrance, Beyoncé Pulse, in New York. And it’s a good thing she likes the perfume’s scent because her sense of smell is amplified since she got pregnant.

“I smell everything,” she says. “If it smells bad I smell it, if it smells great – I love it.”

I liked how she announced her pregnancy. That was very creative. And I LOVE the color she has on. Any shade, well almost, of purple is GREAT to me.

She is stunning!

Beyonce is pretty but JZ is SOOOOOO UGLY! I hope for the sake of that baby that it looks like her!

Congratulations to Beyonce! I hope she enjoys her time getting ready for baby.

Once I got over the first 14 weeks I felt the same way. I loved being pregnant after that and just felt so beautiful and awestruck by the whole thing. It was a bit empowering to carry a child- I think because I struggled with miscarriages and infertility for so long that once I actually realized that baby was for real it just made me relish in the experience. And the smells- same thing. I can still smell things years later that remind me of the pregnancy that can just put me over the edge!

I felt the same way during my first pregnancy. I’d never felt more connected to the earth and other women. Then came my second and third pregnancies (three babies in three years) and I felt sexy and all that, but I also felt like I wish I’d remembered my pills. :D

Wow, that dress is really nice. Great color on her. I liked the way she announced it too! So fun.

Wow, looks like she just rolled outta bed, and forgot to brush her hair. Yikes.

- Margaux on

I’d give anything to roll out of bed looking like that…hair and all!

Izzy, clearly you were born in a barn, but what might help you is thinking about how insulting your statement would be to someone you know, about their husband?

Izzy, just keep your trap shut. How judgmental could you possibly be? So Jay-Z isn’t Brad Pitt…who the hell cares? You sound embarrassingly immature.

Fatima, I hope they have the gender THEY prefer!

Jay-Z may not be the most handsome man on earth, but he’s incredibly witty and clearly a nimble thinker — just watch him interact with David Letterman during his frequent appearances on Letterman’s show. I’d much rather my baby have a smart, funny dad than an attractive lunk.
