I’ve always wondered about the regulations (or lack thereof) about sperm donor babies.

It’s wonderful that sperm donors and egg donors provide an opportunity to have children that some couples otherwise wouldn’t have, but it’s crazy to think that one man’s sperm could produce dozens and dozens of children. And if one man is helping produce 150 children, chances are the majority of them live near each other which brings about the chance that some of these siblings get into romantic relationships with each other. Rare, maybe, but it’s definitely happened.

Alicejane, it’s pretty frightening how little regulation there is in the US. Other countries restrict the number of births per donor, but in the US people aren’t even required to report that a birth occurred! The article says only 20-40% of mothers in the US report the births to the sperm banks. I understand it’s a privacy issue, but it seems better for everyone involved to keep track of this stuff.
