Ali Larter checks out husband Hayes MacArthur while out for lunch with him and their son Theodore, 8 months, on Tuesday in Brentwood, Calif.

“You know, I think of us as a very modern day couple. He loves being a father and I love being a mom so it’s something that we enjoy,” the actress, 35, told PEOPLE recently.

“We don’t think of it as this duty that we have to do. We both enjoy being part of raising [our son] and it’s great to have a partner in life like that.”

What’s In a Baby Name? Expert Candace Alper Weighs In

From how they dress to what they do, celebrities are no strangers to creating trends, so it comes as no surprise that their reach now extends to baby names.

“I think sometimes celebrities make it okay or make it interesting,” baby name expert Candace Alper tells PEOPLE of why non-famous parents are choosing to give their children more unique and unconventional names.

“Celebrities put it out there, and it becomes an idea that people run with.”

For example, Alper notes the popularity of names like Bronx, which caught on after the birth of Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz‘s son in 2008, or Coco, spurred by Courteney Cox and David Arquette‘s 7-year-old daughter.

Days after announcing that baby no. 3 is on the way, Jennifer Garner and elder daughter Violet Anne, 5½, made a trip to Brentwood Country Mart on Wednesday.

The actress and husband Ben Affleck, both 39, say they are “thrilled” about the pregnancy.

The new addition will join Violet and sister Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, 2½.

Why Matt Damon Is Nicknamed ‘Red Alert’

Being a father has turned Matt Damon into a cautious man.

“I’m probably more protective than I’ve ever been now that I have children,” the actor, 40, told reporters Saturday at the press junket for his new film, Contagion.

And Damon’s not the only one who’s noticed the change in his demeanor.

“My wife [Luciana]‘s nickname for me is ‘Red Alert,’” he says with a laugh. “I sometimes check to see if the kids are breathing.”

When it comes to parenting Stella, 10 months, Gia, 3, Isabella, 5, and Alexia, 12, “I tend be a little overprotective without trying to be a helicopter parent,” Damon explains.

Spotted: Postpartum Jessica Alba Steps Out

New mom Jessica Alba was snapped stepping out for the first time since giving birth to daughter Haven two weeks ago – although circumstances were less than ideal.

“Flood -sick toddler -newborn -too many ppl n animals living in 3 bedroom =another day in the Warren household,” the actress, 30, Tweeted Friday as she brought 3-year-old Honor to the doctor’s office.

Still, Alba looked calm and collected in a white maxi dress topped with a denim shirt and cross-body bag — plus breastpump.

Though she did continue with her workouts while pregnant, the actress also gives a lot of credit to Grandma.
