Happy anniversary … and congratulations!

Hilary Duff and husband Mike Comrie, 30, who are celebrating their first wedding anniversary this weekend, are expecting their first child, the singer-actress announced on her official website.

In the post, Duff, 23, reflected on her marriage – she and Comrie wed on Aug. 14, 2010 – and then made her big announcement.

“We also want to share the exciting news that… BABY MAKES THREE,” she wrote.

“We are extremely happy and ready to start this new chapter of our lives.”

I can’t believe that little Lizzie Maguire is having a baby. I’m still in shock, it seems like only yesterday I was watching Lizzie Maguire on Disney. I even own Raise Your Voice and the Lizzie Maguire Movie. Congrats to them and hope that the pregnancy and delivery goes smoothly and that she has a happy, healthy baby 🙂

Angel on

Congratulations to the happy couple! It’s so nice to see a Hollywood couple do things in the right order – marriage first and then baby. It’s very refreshing to see.

Alli on

That is so great. It’s so weird that she’s having a baby when it was just yesterday I was watching that show. God time goes fast. Well wishes to them 🙂

It is crazy that I watched Lizzie McGuire everyday and now I’m pregnant at the same time as her! Congratulations to her and Mike!!

Mina on

I cant wait to see if they are having a boy or girl and what they’ll name it! I hope she keeps us updated!

Allegra on

How great for them! If anyone is wondering — Mike is a professional hockey player.

Amy on

Now I’m old!!! I wonder when she is due!

Cecelia on

Congratulations to the two!

Allegra, at the moment, he’s a former hockey player. He’s suffered too many persistent injuries and nobody wants to sign him so he announced earlier this week that he was taking a break from the league. Hopefully one day he’ll be able to return.

Many people would say 23 is very young to be having a baby regardless of “doing it in the right order”. Many 23 year olds are ready, and many are not mature enough yet. I don’t know Hillary so this is not a comment directed at her but more that there are very few things in life that amount to a perfect situation, and maybe having a rigid rule about the “right order to do things in” leaves out consideration of many variables.

Leigh on

Wow. Lizzie is having a baby.

I guess still see twenty-three as very young, despite being pregnant and just turning twenty-five myself.

I always assumed I’d wait to have kids until I was at least thirty, but one day I realized that the life I’ve led has left me in a pretty advanced mindset for my age.

I imagine that Hilary, having worked from such a young age, feels the same way, so congratulations to Hilary and Mike – on both their first wedding anniversary and their coming baby. This must be such an amazingly exciting and giddy point in their lives and I couldn’t be more pleased for them.

Stella Bella on

Wow. Congratulations!

Like everyone said, I still see her as the young teenager on Disney. Congrats to her and her husband! That is awesome!

Hilary seems to be on a good path! I’m happy for her, makes me feel worse for Lindsay Lohan.

Awe how nice for them!! Congrats!!!

Hilary Duff is my absolute favourite celebrity! I’m her age too and although I’m not financially ready to start a family, I do feel emotionally and mentally ready. Good on her and mike, I think they will be wonderful parents and Haylie will make the best Aunt ever! I also have a feeling she’ll have a boy. This will certainly be the longest celeb pregnancy I have to wait for! I hope the baby is given a lovely name too. I am a little obsessed with baby names!

eribri on

I don’t think some understand how excited I was for her when I read her post!! So EXCITED & HAPPY for her & her husband.

Sophia on

Oh wow! Congratulations to Hilary and Mike! I had a hard enough time believing she’s old enough to marry, and now she’s pregnant! Crazy! She will always be Lizzie McGuire in my mind, haha.

Holiday on

Congrats! Im sure she will do just fine as a young mom! I had a 1 year old by the time I was 23 and being a young mom has been fabulous! How exciting for her.

Jess on

OMG I am so HAPPY for herr! She is going to make a WONDERFUL mother, just a natural. Congrats to their family!

Bancie1031 on

WOW some pleasant unexpected news! Good luck and best of wishes to them 🙂

eternalcanadian on

I’m surprised how many people think Hilary is very young to be a mum. 23 is not young, just my opinion. When an 18 (or in some cases 17) year old can enlist in the military and carry an automatic weapon around I say that’s old enough to be getting married and having children if you’re off to war.

What I like about Hilary is she is actually someone that can be a good role model for today’s youth. She pretty much escaped the negative stuff that Britney, Miley, Lindsay, etc., have gone through. Plus it is refreshing to see someone well-known get married before having children which is opposite those television shows and people that glamourize teen pregnancy and not getting married when they have kids.

I hope Mike gets well soon as it can’t be easy for him trying to recover from all those injuries. He just had a second hip surgery and he’s only 30. But at least he’ll get to be 100% involved in the pregnancy and being with the baby instead of on the road or at the rink all the time.

Good luck to Hilary and Mike! 🙂

Nella on

Wow, I can’t believe Hilary is pregnant, I grew up watching her, and now she’s going to be a mom, wow how time flies! Congrats to them, Hilary has always seemed very stable and never let hollywood affect her negatively so that’s really nice to see. I think she will have a girl! Anyways, I am so happy for them!

Ali on

Wow, it’s so weird hearing Hilary is expecting a baby, I’m her age so I kind of grew up with her with the help of television of course. I’m sure she’ll be a great mom though 🙂

Elena on

Congrats to her and her hubby 🙂 23 isn’t that young to have a kid. I had my first when I was 21 and by that time I was married and I have a job. And I still continue my studies. I wish all the best to them 🙂 Pozdravlâû 🙂

Pamela on

23 isnt too young-and if I’m not mistaken, she’s actually almost 24..so by the time the baby is due, she’ll be getting close to 25!!! And growing up in the hollywood/entertainment industry, I bet she feels older than many other 23 year olds.

Very excited for her and her husband! I’m sure the baby will be beautiful!!!

Mel on

Awww Congrats Lizzy! lol

I’m 24 and no where close to being ready for a baby.

I feel like there is so much more I need to do before I even start thing about being responsible for bringing/raising another little person.

My finace and I are just finishing up school and starting work in a couple weeks, plus we’d like to do some traveling.

Sometimes I feel like I can’t even take care of myself muchless a baby.

But hey, she’s married, they look like the truly love each other and they have the means to do it. Age is only a number.

Pamela on

So happy for you both

Adrienne on

Oh Em Gee!!! Yay!

dsfg on

Hazel, what makes you say she’s definitely going to have a boy? Do you know them or are you psychic?

Maria on

23 is young to have a baby in my opinion- but not too young for many women. I was not ready at all when I was 23- I was so unaware of things and so concerned with myself. I had my son at 38 and that was the right time for me. I would have felt like I missed out on a decade of doing things for myself because having a baby is so much about giving and giving and giving to the child! I am happy I had so much time to experience things on my own. But some people are much more mature and ready at 23 than I was, and they also have more energy! I do think people think 18 is young to have a baby and 23 isn’t that far from 18. No judgement- just that it is an interesting choice- but everyone has different priorities

RachelfromBoston on

I wonder when she’s due!
I’m due 12/15 and have a hockey hubby 🙂

smiley on

She is married to a man who is 7 years older than her, so mentally, I think she is mature enough for a child. Congrats to the happy couple!

Mina on

23 is a normal age to have a baby. Just ask your body. There is this thing called a biological clock. I am so sick of seeing women wait for the “perfect” time to have a baby and then line up at the fertility clinic cuz their time ran out while waiting. Let the backlash being..

harley on

I got so excited seeing this today, it was ridiculous! I’m only 4 years older than her, but it still seems surreal to me that she’s married and now expecting. I bet those two are so far over the moon NASAs Orbiter could pick them up lol.

As for the age BS. Keep in mind that everyone matures at different rates due to their upbringing and their lifestyle. It’s not a far leap. I was quite mature at 23 thanks to growing up in a military family. Hillary grew up making decisions, dealing with all shades of people since she was a child. She and Mike have been together for 3 years or so, it’s not like they’re just learning about one another.

Cecelia on

Mina, the only backlash you may receive is because it’s a subject that does not concern you in any way, shape, or form. Not every woman desires to have children in their 20s. Nothing wrong with that. While some, like Hilary, may be ready, others are not. Rushing into such a thing because of fear of a biological clock is foolish. If it worked for you, fine, but when others choose to start families is none of your business.

showbizmom on

@Mel You brought a smile to my face today, thank you. Took me back to being a young eager 23 year old with my now husband starting out in our careers. Have fun in this time, travel, drink good wine, and enjoy it! If I could go back……

I don’t know much about her, but she has done more then what most have done in a lifetime so I’m sure she won’t be missing out on anything. Congrats to them both on the bundle of joy!

Holiday on

Yeah I dont get how 23 is “too young”. You all realize that maturity is a state of mind and not an age right?

Chrissy Wissy on

Congrats to them! And yes, 23 is young. I just turned 24. She is three months younger than me. But I’m not very mature for my age, lol! 🙂

Hilary Duff is a very mature woman and a very warm-hearted person, and she is very ready for a baby for sure. Me, on the other hand? No, not yet! 🙂

Kasee on

@Mina, for many women it’s not about waiting until the “perfect time” but not everyone meets and marries their partner by the age of 23 and thinks, oh, I’ll wait a decade or so to have kids. Sorry I didn’t marry the first man to cross my path after college just so I could have a baby at 23 the way I’m “supposed” to. Maybe if less people rushed to get married in their younger years there would be less divorce in this country.

Holiday on

Kasee lots of older couples go through divorce too!

I can think of just as many couples who got married after 30 and divorced as I can young married couples. My husband I got married a month after we turned 21. We are now 27 with a 5.5 year old and 15 month old and happy as can be.

Doreen on

He looks like an overweight Joel, who was her ex…now married to Nicole Ritchie. He’s ok looking…hope they have a lovely child. Congrats!

Kelly on

I thought she was much younger and unmarrried, so I was shocked at the title of this article. I am glad to read that she is married and age 23. Congrats to them!

Mina – Being 23 does not mean that you automatically have good eggs or sperm. Sure, you have a better chance, but I tried IVF when I was 24 and it did not work.

MamaGarcia on

Aww this made me feel old! I had my first daughter at 22 and just had my second daughter in February and I am 25. I think she will be a great mother, she’s grown up beautifully without the issues alot of other “stars” her age (Lindsey for instance) did. Congrats to both!

Kel on

I say boy!!!

Leigh on

I agree with the above comment that being young doesn’t necessarily mean that your fertility is perfect and conception is just a matter of saying “hey! Let’s have a baby.”

We don’t know Hilary’s medical history – or Mike’s for that matter. While there is nothing to indicate that they’re not perfectly fertile, I know that I, for one, am having children quite a bit younger than I would have otherwise thought because my chances just aren’t that great to begin with and I didn’t want to add age as another possible hurdle. Of course, I’m lucky enough to be in a stable relationship with a partner who feels the same way and in a position of being able to support myself and my future children.

Hilary and Mike are financially well-off, seem to be very much in love, and are, I imagine, very much looking forward to meeting their child. I NEVER meant to imply otherwise.

to MINA on

@Mina: NO. Between 13-40 is fertile years, & we all no having a baby between 13-21 isnt smart. I think 23 is still too young.

Since Hil has been working since she was a teen, she has millions. She has traveled. Still I think 23 is too young. Hope it works out.

Another young one didnt work out: Ashley Simpson(born in 84) datin Pete Wentz(born in 79) got pregnant & married in May 2008, son born in Nov 2008. They are now divorcing.

Mike is 30 so he is @ the stage where men are finally mature & want kids. Hil is just 23. In the real word she’d just be graduated from college w her first real job w a salary.

I hope bc Mike is home injured isnt why this happened.

Mina on

ToMina….Ask any doctor they will tell you that once u hit 35 (or late 30’s) your chances of having complications increases, especially Downs, multiples, or simply not conceiving at all. I’m not making this shyt up! lol

Cassie on

Congrats to them both!!

Holiday on

To Mina, not everyone wants to be an old mom. Sounds like you had kids as an old lady and feeling jealous of hot young mamas like Hillary.

Rimaah-Fadal on

I say girl just to go completely different from the heffers on here 😉

Jillian on

Your comment made me laugh! Thanks so much! “To Mina, not everyone wants to be an old mom. Sounds like you had kids as an old lady and feeling jealous of hot young mamas like Hillary.”

Jealousy is a childish immature excuse. I read your posts about your “perfect life.” It is either a lie or far from perfect. Please. Anyone that throws out the jealousy comment is not a mature person because your theory makes no sense. Your age and immature shows throw all the time. Side note, Hilary (you spelled it wrong) is not hot, she is average, but that has no bearing on when I or anyone has children or is jealous of when she has children. I have four children and became a mother in my 20’s. There is no right age to have a child, as it is different for everyone. I know it makes you feel better people down. You do it everyday on here. I just hope you don’t teach your children to do that to other people. Karma is a bitch though. I hope your children (if they are even real) don’t get treated half as bad as you treat people on here.
