Wow at that 16 lb baby! He is very cute, but that seems dangerous for both the mom and the baby. I’m glad both are healthy!

I think Chicago rolling back curfews is a pretty good idea, but I doubt that people would listen. A child under 12 does not need to be out past 8:30 (without supervision, not meaning they shouldn’t be with a friend at night, or in their yard during the summer months). They should be with the parents. However, a lot of parents don’t supervise, and those that do probably already are watching where their kids are at 8:30, so it probably won’t matter.

As for talking to your daughter about puberty, I am not a parent yet, but I think it should be an ongoing discussion. I knew too many girls who had no idea what was happening with their bodies because their mothers did not discuss it with them and also did not grant them permission to attend the (lame) sex education program during 5th grade. It will seem like less of a big deal if the child knows basics from an early age.

Chicago really needs to pull back the curfew! If the parents don’t obey it and some won’t, the parents/children will receive tickets. Some families will ignore it, but if even 10% of the children are off the street because of the new rule then the city is ahead.
