Jessica Alba made quite the statement at Monday evening’s Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s Costume Institute Gala Benefit, held in New York City.

“Balance is a little tricky!” the mom-to-be, 30, told PEOPLE, showing off her award-winning style in a statuesque Ralph Lauren Collection custom platinum lamé gown and Casadei triple platform peep toes.

With her second child due this fall, big sister Honor Marie, 2½, is getting ready for her new role.

“She says, ‘I want to be the mommy. I’m going to feed the baby. I’m going to tell the baby what to do,'” Alba laughs. “She’s excited that she’s going to be the boss of something.”

I like the top of the dress….but, not too sure about the rest of it. The color looks great on her and her hair/make up look nice.

I love this look! Gorgeous as always.

Love the dress! Love Jessica! Both beautiful!

Brianne on

Love the hair and like ‘j’ love the top half of the dress, however the bottom half doesn’t photograph well and looks cheap!

Beautiful!

Wow! I love the whole dress, which looks floaty and dreamy. I suppose the irridescence probably looks better in person. Jessica is so beautiful! A hopeless ideal for most of us, sigh!!

funny thing is if it wasnt Jessica Alba and this same dress was on a regular person, people would say it was a cheap tacky dress.

Wow, gold is obviously the colour of choice at the MET Gala this year…I like it!

The dress reminds me of Ursula from the Little Mermaid, lol

So gorgeous!!! I have NO idea where anybody would get ‘cheap’ from this look. It is stunning and Jessica looks absolutely radiant.

I see how someone might think it could be cheap…it looks shiny and a little cheap looking platicky…she looks beautiful i it but if a not so pretty obese women wore it people would not think the dress was elegant and beautiful……

That dress looks like plastic wrap.

I agree with Tess, this dress looks like plastic wrap. When I saw the picture of this dress, I instantly thought that I wanted to use it to wrap up leftovers. I would think as a “celebrity,” she would have a better taste in gowns.
