Rod Stewart: Newborn Aiden ‘Great’ – but Struggling with Reflux

With a new addition to the family on the way — daughter Kimberly Stewart is pregnant with Benicio Del Toro‘s baby — Rod Stewart was all smiles at Wednesday’s ASCAP Pop Music Awards, where he was honored with the Founder’s Award.

“It’s going to be good,” Stewart, 66, told PEOPLE of becoming a grandfather.

Of course, the singer is back in practice himself with the recent birth of son Aiden just 10 weeks ago.

“He’s having a little bit of trouble with the reflux,” Stewart shared of he and wife Penny Lancaster Stewart‘s newborn. “He drinks and brings it all up again, but he’s great.”

For Stewart, who has eight kids — daughters Sarah, Kimberly, Ruby and Renée, as well as sons Sean, Liam, Alastair and Aiden — becoming a parent again hasn’t been without its taxing moments. In order to get a good night’s rest, Stewart says he and Penny have worked out a “good arrangement.”

“If the baby wakes up then you have to go sleep in the other room,” he explains. “He’s up every two hours now so a few nights a week I go and sleep in another room.”

Though Stewart has yet to offer expectant mom Kimberly any parenting advice, the singer does plan to be more hands-on with his family from now on.

“I’m trying to make more time now that I’ve carved out my career,” he says. “I want to enjoy my kids. We’re all planning a massive vacation somewhere. It’s hard to get them all together because they are all off in different directions. But I am so proud of them.”

Its hard to get them all together because they are all from different mama’s!!

Reflux for babies is terrible. I knew a 3-month old who had it. She’d satisfy her hunger, and throw it all back up. She cried because it hurt and she got upset. I hope little Aiden feels better soon.

Rod’s whole sleep in another room comment was a complete turnoff..he makes it seem like he doesn’t want to deal with the responsibility of having a child and is pushing the real work on penny..he is coming across as a grumpy old man…maybe he should leave the baby making to his children if he doesn’t want a crying baby struggling with reflux to interrupt his beauty sleep :-(

I have loved Rod for a very long time. I am a mother to 4 and grandmother to 8 and I am only 47. Rod darling, perhaps it is time to start enjoying grandkids and stop making new babies of your own. I do hope your new son will be ok and get his reflux under control. If you want to be truly more hands on, then don’t go sleep in another room unless its the baby’s room dear. He needs you and mommy needs her rest! Love ya!

Maybe he takes a more hands on role during the day? What if their arrangement IS that Penny gets up at night, sleeps in in the morning while Rod takes on more of the daytime duties?

Poor little guy (I mean Aiden). Hopefully they’ll get the reflux under control however they can and soon! The acid is really damaging to the esophagus and throat.

Well he is almost 70, poor old man!! lol

Feel sorry for the bubba too and atleast they have plenty of money to receive the best treatment for him.

I wonder if the baby has pyloric stenosis? (A smaller than normal gastric opening [stomach]).

Gripe Water from the health food store is great for gas or reflux. Also Colic Calm has been used by my neice with good results.

Ivey-Actually I heard that the ex-wives get together and do things. They all get along and talk greatly about Rod.

Reflux can be a handful, so I do understand the need to get as much rest. I can remember 3 years ago spending most of my time cleaning up after each- more frequent feedings. I am surprised we survived but it does it better in time. Although our daughter still throws up more often than many. Best wishes to his forever expanding family.

People don’t listen!! All of you who have made a negitive comment Do you not know he has been on tour for two months working?? He stated that when he needs to sleep ( Which is when he has or has had a concert that night) he sleeps in another room. Come on people clean out your on closets first!!

Come on, 66 yeas old? I thought he 20 the way hes going.

He also says “a few nights a week” implying that some nights he doesnt move, so would be tending to the baby. Thats pretty much the way everyone does it isnt it?

And Penny obviously doesnt think he is that terrible a father, because she chose to have a second baby with him!

It would be good if Kimberlys babe is a boy, perfect play mate for Aiden!

I agree with Mary Beth. My mom said she used to give it to me when I was little and it helped a lot. Wow I just realized something, the man Rod Stewart’s daughter is having a baby with is Fentley in The Usual Suspect, lol I was just watching it for an English course and I just connected that.

Hope Aiden feels better soon. I’m happy for Rod and his wife on their new bundle of joy, but I really think that they shouldn’t have anymore kids. He’s much older and will be a grandpa soon, so he should just focus on the children he has and enjoy them. That’s just my opinion and I don’t mean it in a mean way, just being honest. They have two cute little boys and he has other children as well. I know it’s up to them how big their family gets and it’s none of my concern, but that’s just my opinion.

LOL Rod’s age has nothing to do with him needing and getting sleep, “he has to work” and there are plenty of young fathers who don’t get up with their kids for whatever reasons too.

my daughter had reflux and i asked my husband to sleep in the other room most nights. as a nursing mother, there was really no reason for us both to be awake all night. that way he was refreshed and could help during the day with both kids, while i could take a nap when needed. i hope their son feels better.

His daughter is pregnant and he is still having babies?? That would be way to weird for me. I do hope they stop having babies. I guess that’s what happens when they marry a younger woman who still can have babies and they want kids.

My 7 month old had reflux when he was born. He was preemie, so they told me that was why he was getting it. He spits up alot still, but does not choke like before. Now that is scary!

Kate on

Toya and Daria, I agree. My husband works very hard and long hours so I wouldn’t expect him to get up at night, besides there is really no need for 2 people be up with the baby. I think reflux is very common but most outgrow it by 6 months

I wonder have he can really feels that his daughter is pregnant after a fling? What father would be! Everyone knows she sleeps around hollywood thats shameful. Is that why when every shes out she is 2 steps behind Rod. She should be proud shouldn’t she…

Fran on

Funny how everyone keeps saying they didn’t know K Stewart and Del Toro were “together”… you don’t need a relationship to get pregnant, just a hookup.
