Elton’s John: Zachary’s Breast Milk Comes via Fedex

Elton John is rightly known for doing things with a flourish. And that includes delivering breast milk to his son.

“We have the breast milk Fedexed from where she is,” says the musician, referring to the surrogate who carried his and partner David Furnish‘s 4-month-old son, Zachary Jackson Levon.

What the new parents don’t have, despite British tabloid reports to the contrary, are multi-million-dollar nurseries in their homes, four nannies in service, or special baby chefs.

“We have one nanny. And we’re very hands-on,” John told ABC’s Barbara Walters for a 20/20 interview. “And we take him to lunch.”

How hands-on are John, 64, and Furnish, 48, when it comes to Zachary? “We change him, we bathe him, we feed him and we read him a story every night.”

Both stressed the importance of instilling the right values in the boy, who is growing up not only rich but in the shadow of his parents’ limelight.

“The worst thing you can do to a child, and I’ve seen it happen so many times, is the silver spoon,” John said. “Being the child of a famous person is very difficult, and we’re very well aware of the pitfalls of that.”

“Our life might be very luxurious but it’s all come from hard work,” said Furnish, a movie producer. “Both Elton and I have sort of earned everything we’ve done in our careers and furthered our educations through our own drive and our own ambitions, and we want Zachary to be exactly the same sort of way.”

I can just imagine Elton reading the three little pigs to Zachary!!

Thats nice though, they seem to have their priorities right. And in a way that link, that its his bio mums milk that hes being fed on, is quite nice, perhaps there will be some sort of relationship there, which can only be a good thing.

I’m sorry but that is so abnormal and so very wrong. If they want to have a child with a surrogate, at least let the surrogate breast feed the child so the baby feels the love and warmth of its MOTHER. It’s just so wrong to keep a child away from its biological mother, especially when they know who that person is. They should have adopted instead.

Kate on

They seem like they really know what’s best for the baby (breastmilk, skin to skin right after delivery). Their son is very lucky:)
Barbi, go find your Ken and adopt.

I watched the 20/20 episode and they actually don’t know who the bio mom is, they know who the surrogate is but she is not biologically related to the baby in any way as they used an anonymous egg donor. I don’t necessarily agree with the choice to bring a child into a family without a mom and dad, but at the end of the day it’s their family and they do love him.

Hmmm on

I dont think the surrogate is the technical BIO mother. I believe they used a separate egg donor…I may be wrong though.

Barbi – Wait, are you under the delusion that a surrogate is the mother of the child she carries? Don’t adopted children need their “MOTHER” and breast milk as well according to you?

Sara on

Barbi – they tried to adopt. They weren’t allowed to because of Elton John’s advanced age and that he isn’t married. Perhaps the surragote doesn’t want a child. Everyone has the right to live the way they want to. Who are you to judge?

Barbi, a surrogate is a surrogate and NOT the mother. The surrogate does not have a relationship with the child. The surrogate only carried the child…..they have no ideo who the mother is, as the eggs were donated. They don’t know who the mother is…

And they tried to adopt and were not successful. But stop and think for a second…if they adopted, should the birth mother be breastfeeding the baby? What a silly thing to say!

anybody can be a birth mother – but it takes someone special to be the actual ‘parent’ It seems as if these two men ARE the parent to this child. I didn’t watch BW special, I could care less about following them and their parenthood journey, but I CANNOT stand when someone claims that a child NEEDS its mother. A child needs LOVE and these two men seem to have PLENTY to give to this baby. Lots of women out there are very selfless and are more than happy to carry a baby (or donate an egg) for a couple who could otherwise be childless. Kudos to them!

Each time I see this baby with his daddies, it puts a big smile on my face. They make a beautiful and happy family.

Sorry my mistake, I meant the surrogate, got my terms confused! Either way, all kids get to an age where they want to know where they came from, and it would be nice to say “X” carried you in her belly until you were big enough to be born rather than “someone.” I just think its admirable that there is still some relationship there even after the baby has been born.

And mominFL well said!! Gender doesnt equal a good parent!

Awe, love Elton. What a beautiful family, how can you not look at that picture of him and his son and just be in awe lol. I wish them well =)

Christian on

I wish all of you would zip your lips about your personal opinions and just be happy for the two of them.

I was raised by my father as my mother left us. And I am perfectly fine.

he sure is a cutie…but i am sorry, having a baby at 64 is pure selfishness. i am all for the two dad thing, or two mom thing. But as a child of a much older father, it is not fair on the child. They simply do not have the same level of energy that a younger man would have no matter which way you try to cut it.
I really feel for him, because when he is 30, elton will be 94…how is that fair? I feel sorry for the poor kid.
