Halle Berry: I Hope Nahla Is Proud of Me

London Entertainment/Splash News Online

In the middle of a custody tangle with her ex, Halle Berry makes clear her focus is on raising her daughter.

“It is just joy, it’s joy,” Berry, 44, said Friday night at the 42nd NAACP Image Awards. “I wouldn’t say it’s the hardest work I do, I would say it’s the best work I do.”

Berry, who won for outstanding actress for Frankie & Alice, says she hopes Nahla Ariela, who turns 3 this month, is inspired by her mom someday.

“I hope she’s proud of me,” says Berry. “I’m sure she won’t like everything I’ve done, but I hope she will appreciate that I dared to be myself and always did what I believed in. I hope those are qualities that I pass on to her.”

Family Photo: The Sweetin-Coyles Cuddle Up

Ben Dome/Pacific Coast News

Sweet snuggle!

Jodie Sweetin and fiancé Morty Coyle pose for a photo with daughter Beatrix Carlin, 5 months, at Jayneoni Moore’s Pre-Oscar Studio, held last Saturday in Los Angeles, Calif.

Coyle says he came up with his baby girl’s name while doodling possible names.

“I was kicking around these ideas and then I started writing ‘Beatles,’” he says. “I wrote ‘B-e-a-t,’ and then I went, ‘Oh, Beatrix!’”

The former Full House star, 29, is also mom to elder daughter Zoie Laurelmae, 2½, with ex-husband Cody Herpin.

Kids Learn to Love Animals on PBS’s Wild Kratts

Courtesy PBS Kids

Sometimes there are questions we can’t necessarily answer for our kids.

How fast can a cheetah run? How much does a baby elephant weigh? What is the world’s biggest whale?

For such creature queries, luckily, there’s the PBS series Wild Kratts, an animated show that takes children on adventures into the animal kingdom.

The show’s stars, New Jersey-born brothers Martin, 45, and Chris, 41, shared an interest in animals while growing up, and after pursuing zoology degrees in college, they set off to explore their passions.

“We picked up a video camera, went to Costa Rica and started filming wildlife videos,” Chris tells PEOPLE Moms & Babies.

Padma Lakshmi: In the Kitchen for Krishna

PAPSFIRST/Splash News Online

Padma Lakshmi knows a thing or two about good food, and she’s sharing that love with her 1-year-old daughter, Krishna Thea.

“I make all her food. She doesn’t eat baby food,” the Top Chef judge, 40, told PEOPLE at the National Education Association’s 14th Annual Read Across America Day in Washington, D.C. “Lentils and rice, that’s her favorite. And she loves black-eyed peas.”

When it comes to whipping up meals for her daughter, the cookbook author keeps it simple.

“You just boil them with a little salt, water, onion, rice and carrots,” says Lakshmi. “It’s really easy to cook for children because they’re very simple in their tastes and they’re very grateful. She’s never gotten bottled baby food.”

Wipeout‘s John Henson Prepares For Fatherhood

Contestants face many obstacles on ABC’s Wipeout, from Big Balls to the final Wipeout Zone, to earn their $50,000 prize. For co-host John Henson and his wife, comedienne Jill Benjamin, learning about the pending birth of their first child was a reward unto itself.

“I lost my mother five weeks before the wedding [in June] after a very prolonged illness,” Henson tells PEOPLE. “We were planning on having a honeymoon baby and after we lost my mom, it was one of those moments where my wife and I talked and said, ‘Gee, life is short and you’re not promised tomorrow, and what different does five weeks make?’”

So the couple started trying and “Sure enough, first time out of the box, we got pregnant,” Henson, 42, says, “and I would really like to think my mom had a hand in that.”

Henson and Benjamin are expecting a son to arrive this month. “We are so excited,” he says.
