It’s a girl for Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum!

The couple welcomed daughter Lyra on Wednesday, March 2 in London, their rep said in a statement.

“They are over the moon,” adds the rep.

Singer-songwriter Cullum, 31, and writer and former model Dahl, 33, wed in January 2010.

“My relationship with Sophie has helped put everything in perspective,” Cullum said at the time.

“It reminds me that while I love [working], and have certain responsibilities to my career, there are more important things in life.”

Congrats! Is her name pronounced Leer-ah or Lie-rah? I’m assuming the former.

Corrie on

I have never heard that name before – very pretty!

Congratulations to them on the new arrival.

Hea on

Congrats to them! Love the name.

Aw, just like the protagonist of one of my all time favorite books: His Dark Materials ( Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, Amber Compass ). Beautiful name! Cute couple, I can’t help but like them :D Congrats!!

Dani on

BubbleT- I believe it would be pronounced Lie-rah. Its the name of the lead girl in the Northern Lights trilogy books which are quite famous in England and thats definitely how her name is pronounced.

Philippa on

@BubbleT funny enough I would presume the latter pronunciation :)

Either way congrats to them, and I love the name! :D

Congratulations to the Cullums! I think it’s a really pretty name, i’ve also never heard of the name before, it says this from another website, maybe where the name is from:

‘The name Lyra has become more well known since the publication of the Philip Pullman trilogy His Dark Materials, whose central character is called Lyra Belacqua. It is also the name of a Kate Bush song written for a film version of one of the novels.

There is also a constellation called Lyra, and it is the Latin word for lyre, the stringed instrument’

They are an incredibly unattractive couple. God help the child.

It is pronounced ‘lie-rah, my cousin has the same name and I love it! Congrats Jamie and Sophie x

Amanda on

Is it me or does he look like her son not her husband?

Oh, grow up Emily. You are being incredibly vain and childish and God help any one stuck living with you. You’re such a bratty bitch.

Alexandra on

@Alice: You forgot to mention *immature*! :)

@Georgina, I have no idea who this couple are, so I was wondering what does BFG stand for?

Lea on

BFG – Big Friendly Giant is a much loved childrens book written by Roald Dahl who was Sophie’s grandfather. The little girl in the book is also called Sophie after her.
