Nancy O’Dell has a way with words — and, apparently, so does her 3½-year-old daughter Ashby Grace!
“As a journalist I’m used to asking questions. I’ll ask my daughter, ‘Why are you upset right now?’ … I guess I use my interviewing skills to get to the root of the problem!” the Your Own Show host, 44, tells Scholastic Parent & Child‘s March issue.
“Instead of saying, ‘Don’t jump off the couch,’ I can say, ‘Let me explain why I don’t want you jumping off the couch.’”
Quick to use the phrase, ‘Let’s talk about this,’ with Ashby, O’Dell laughs it wasn’t long before the toddler turned the tables and suggested a heart-to-heart on her own.

The moments after childbirth were extraordinarily profound for Christina Applegate, who dropped her defenses and pulled daughter Sadie Grace to her chest, a part of her body that she’s kept closely guarded since her double mastectomy in 2008.
“I dropped my gown, which I don’t do,” the Hall Pass star, 39, says in an interview airing Tuesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “This part of my body is very private to me … that’s a real private place. A place that I don’t have a good relationship with, let’s say. But at that moment of pulling her out, I just tore that off.”
It was a sign of just how open she was to her new daughter. “There’s a room full of people that I don’t know. Nurses and doctors,” says Applegate — this week’s PEOPLE cover girl, along with Sadie. “And she and I just lay there. It was the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Jenny McCarthy‘s son Evan Joseph may not be contributing ideas to mom’s new bedding line, but the 8½-year-old is finding some interests of his own these days: namely bugs and girls!
“He’s totally in love with women,” McCarthy tells PEOPLE. “He’s got pictures of three girls above his bed, that are all like 16, 15 and 14, and he’s only 8.”
The actress says her son is actively courting his newfound loves — all neighbors — too.
“At night he’s like, ‘I’m on the phone and I need my privacy,’” she jokes. “He’s a total ladies’ man. But I don’t know if he’s going to be the most romantic Casanova in the world … or Hugh Hefner.”
