Alicia Silverstone Is Pregnant

Alicia Silverstone recently said she “can’t wait to be pregnant” — and now she is!

The actress and author, 34, is expecting her first child with husband Christopher Jarecki later this year, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“I’ve been wanting to have a baby since I was 2 years old — I’m destined to be a mother,” Silverstone said in April.

She and Jarecki, 40, wed in June 2005 in Lake Tahoe after eight years together.

The author of vegan cookbook The Kind Diet, Silverstone will next be seen in the films Vamps, Butter and Homework.

Congrats to Alicia and her husband! Growing up, I loved her movies, one of my fave was Clueless! This is exciting news!!! I am just shocked at all the celeb pregnancies, I feel like there’s a baby announcement every day.

She was with the man for years, they made a commitment to each other, and now are going to have a family. That’s a refreshing change from “We’ve known each other for a few MONTHS and I’m pregnant”.

Flame me as you will, but it’s nice to see someone out there who didn’t have an “OOPS!” moment.

Jordan – I agree. I’ve been beginning to think I’m getting old because everytime I see one of these pregnancy announcements by couples dating a few months I can’t help but think what the heck?! And I know what that makes me sound like but I can’t help how I feel.

Jane Krakowski, David & Victoria Beckham, Marion Cotillard, Kevin James, Jennie Finch, Owen Wilson, Jewel & Ty Murray, Tia Mowry, Kate Hudson, Devin Aoki, Selma Blair, and now Alicia Silverstone. Holy baby boom is right!

Nobody should be bashed for pointing out that she was married and with this person for a long time. As bad as Hollywood marriages/unions are statistically, there is a much higher break up for those who were pregnant before marriage or knowing the person. See how many of these couples are together in 5 or 10 years.

Waverly- I would be utterly shocked if Cameron Diaz announced a pregnancy, as she’s said multiple times that she doesn’t want kids.

nelly- Not neccesarily. Remember how frightented most people were when Nicole Richie announced her pregnancy with Harlow? Yet she managed to do a 180 (and practically overnight to boot!), turn her life around for the better, and be, by all accounts, a fanatastic mommy. Same thing with Kendra Wilkenson and Kourtney Karadashien. A lot of people thought they wouldn’t be good moms….but they’ve changed for the better since becoming moms, too. So if Paris DOES get pregnant, perhaps motherhood will change her, too! :)

All of that being said, I WOULD be quite alarmed if Lindsay Lohan announced a pregnancy in the near future. IMO, she needs to focus on staying sober and out of trouble with the law for awhile before she even THINKS about having kids.

I guess its been a REALLY COLD fall/winter in Hollywood. My mother in law told me that where she is from (they had really cold winters) there would always be lots of babies conceived because people spend more time indoors snuggled up to keep warm and well… one thing leads to another! congrats to all the expecting celebrities!

This is getting crazy! What is in the water? Very happy for Alicia.

And I don’t know if CBB will be covering this (don’t know how big he is in the US) but there’s a rumour that David Tennant is gonna be a daddy too! His fiancée is apparently 5 months pregnant.

David is a British actor, incredibly well known over here, mainly because his role in Doctor Who. I love him so much – am as excited about this as I was about the Burtka-Harris babies!

ll65- Interesting you should mention Nicole Kidman. She’s another celeb whom I would be beyond shocked announcing a pregnancy. She’s mentioned many times that her doctors gave her about a 2 percent change of getting pregnant, and that Sunday is a miracle (the article is here, if you want to read it: http://celebritybabies.people.com/2008/12/03/nicole-kidman-o/ . Also, Nicole was already 40 when she had Sunday. So considering her age and the fact that she was given such low odds of concieving at all, I have a feeling Sunday will be her and Keith’s only child.

Now, with that being said, I’d like to comment on the fact that so many people are saying how it’s “refreshing” to see a celeb couple that’s married having a child. I don’t get why so many people seem to think that marriage is some sort of magic bullet, especially in Hollywood. Just because Alicia and her husband are married doesn’t mean they’ll never break up.

I also don’t get why people seem to forget that NOT being married doesn’t always spell doom for a couple, even in Hollywood! Look at Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, or Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. Neither couple is married, but Johnny and Vanessa have been together for a little over a decade, and Goldie and Kurt for over TWO decades! :)

Now, I am very much for marriage, and I’m so old-fashioned that I wouldn’t even sleep with someone I wasn’t married to, much less have kids with them. But it confuses me a bit as to why so many people seem to think that a couple being married means their relatioship is completely solid and that they will never break up.

Getting back to Alicia what excites me the most about this announcement, other than the obvious congratulations to the couple, is the fact that as an openly vegan couple they will be able to dispel the myths concerning raising healthy vegan children. I know that other actors and singers are vegan also but I am hoping that Alicia will seize the opportunity to talk about how she answers the questions concerning “are you healthy enough? Is the baby healthy enough?”

I think it has more to do with the fact that they’ve been together for many years, then got married, then conceived. There’s been a rash of “dating for a few months, now we’re expecting!” pregnancies in Hollywood lately (Owen Wilson, to an extent Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, Selma Blair).
