BumpWatch: Natalie Portman – Under Wraps

National Photo Group

Roll with it!

A newly engaged — and pregnant! — Natalie Portman covers up her growing bump after making a safe landing with her canine buddy, Whiz, Tuesday at Los Angeles International Airport.

The Black Swan star, 29, and her fiancé, choreographer Benjamin Millepied, will welcome their first child later this year.

My poor 16 year old son is crushed that one of his “crushes” is engaged! He has had a crush on Natalie Protman since he saw her in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Lol

Ah so weird seeing her on here. I did a double-take for a second, forgetting she was pregnant!

- kmb on

I can’t really tell that she’s pregnant yet.

And her dog is so cute!

- klutzy_girl on

Natalie Portman is so gorgeous…totally loving her casual style!

- Waverly on

welp. there goes her privacy. we rarely saw her in the tabloids, now that she’s with child, she’s gonna be stalked.

Since everyone is in love with Natalie Portman, I’m probably going to ruffle a whole bunch of feathers when I say: I don’t like her. I never have. I think she is grossly overrated as an actress, and whenever she simpers about “wanting privacy” I roll my eyes. “Privacy,” my aunt Fanny. She LOVES publicity, and she’s a master at getting it for herself while at the same time acting all innocent and “little girl lost, in need of protection.”

I also find it interesting that she has such trouble keeping her clothes on — she’s appearing naked EVERYWHERE lately — when she has firmly insisted, more than once, that she “won’t do nudity.” Sure, honey. Sure.

- SAR on

SAR- With all do respect, how can you possibly know that Natalie loves publicity? We pretty much only see her when she has a movie to promote….and that’s because, like all actors and actresses, she is contractually obligited to promote her films. She definitly does not court the media like some celebs do (Paris Hilton and the Kardashien sisters are some examples….not that I have anything against them! In fact, I actually sort of like the Kardashiens, and I’m neutral on Paris.).

As for her comment on nudity….I take that to mean she won’t be doing any nude scenes in films. She also, as another poster pointed out, is rarely featured in the tabs, which means she’s obviously doing something right when it comes to staying out of the lime light!

Anyway, not only do I like Natalie, but I think she’s a wonderful role model for other young actresses. She started her career when she was still a teenager and yet, unlike so many stars who started their careers young, she managed to keep her head on straight and not turn into a troubled party girl.

Anyway, the dog is adorable, and it looks like she’s not too far along yet.

I’m with SAR. Natalie is an attractive woman, but she is so flat as an actress. Yes that’s my opinion, but what isn’t my opinion is that she hooked up with a guy in a long term relationship. I’ve never been cheated on but I know women who have and they always seem so hurt. Yes, it’s the guys’s fault but women like Natalie are selfish too. She wants what she wants and doesn’t care if the man she wants has any class. Not a great way to start a marriage, though I doubt they’ll marry. She’s in Oscar contention and engaged with the baby daddy sounds better than hooked up with some hot guy I might dump when I get bored.

- Cici on

I’m not sure how CelebBabyLover can say Natalie doesn’t court publicity? She announced her pregnancy and engagement! Plenty of stars never tell anyone. Maybe the press just notices a bump or an engagement ring, but the celebrity doesn’t comment, just ignores the press. The fact that Natalie released the info tells me she’s isn’t too publicity shy.

That’s her right, of course. She wants to make money and getting an Oscar nod will help her make more and using her pregnancy and engagement could help her win votes. Natalie has every right to pimp out her kid for attention like a lot of “publicity shy” celebrities do when trying to sell a movie (Jen Gardner), but to pretend she’s just a quiet gal who hates the attention is naive.

- Cici on

SAR and Cici – I agree. But the dog is cute.

I love Natalie Portman. Black Swan freaked me out, I don’t see how anyone can deny she did an incredible job in that film! Also, if you’re a fan of SNL, The Lonely Island did a song with her called Natalie’s Rap that is so ridiculously funny to me! Wish she would have picked me instead of her fiance ;)

- B.J. on

Wow, some nasty people out there! Yep she announced it, in case you haven’t noticed, people who don’t get asked all the time, and get stalked more because paps and people try to get every last bit of info.

And I just love how when you are with someone who was in a relationship before you made him cheat. Why? Maybe he just left his girlfriend because he fell in love with someone else! It’s sad but it’s life. Doesn’t mean he hid Natalie in a cupboard for months. If you’re ready to sacrifice your own happiness because another girl met him before you, good for… her.

- Alice on

I’m happy for Natalie! It’s like weird to me she’s pregnant now. When she first came to my attention, I was like in middle school when the Star Wars films with her in them were being made & she was in high school. Now she’s pregnant & I’m in college again. My how times flies.

Also, I’m NOT saying this to be mean but I find it funny how she goes through so much trouble to cover her stomach & it’s still farily early in her pregnancy. In one set of pics I saw yesterday, she constantly had her arms over it in a ruffled dress & today she’s holding that adorable dog! Well the dog may be coincidence but I can understand why mothers are protective of the baby bump.

- Minami86 on

CiCi and SAR: If Natalie supposedly loves publicity, how do you explain her NEVER being in the tabloids and magazines during her time at Harvard?? Why would she even go to college if she LOVES being in the limelight? In fact, she was once quoted as saying she didn’t care if going to college ruined her career. And the engagement/baby announcement is no different from non-celebrities who announce special events to their friends, family, and even acquaintances via facebook and twitter. If you were a celebrity, then you’d announce special news to the world too — after all, you’d want your adoring fans to share in your good news, wouldn’t you? And regarding her nudity, it’s called art — she’s not making porn or anything…jeez, lighten up.

- Waverly on

Waverly, what does her attending Harvard and not showing up in the tabloids have to do with anything? There are all kinds of ways to get publicity besides showing up in tabloids (for “partying” and such). Also, Natalie got plenty of publicity when she was at Harvard…she promoted many films she was in, and she was on magazine covers and talk shows.

I’m not “nasty,” and I resent being called so because I don’t like a celebrity. You don’t know her any better than I do. I’m not going to stifle my opinion of her just because she attended Harvard, or because you think she’s wonderful. I’m as entitled to my opinion as anyone else.

I think Natalie loves publicity and openly courts it. She didn’t “have” to announce her (out-of-wedlock) pregnancy…at a time when she is ramping up her Oscar campaign. She also didn’t “have” to talk nonstop (which she has) about her onscreen “girl-on-girl action,” or get naked for practically every movie she’s appeared in, or for every magazine she’s done an interview with (which she has), of late. She “won’t do nudity,” yet she has done more nudity recently than just about any actress her age I can think of. Now she “is so very private,” but engages in blatantly publicity-seeking behavior.

If she’s SO SO SO private, why is she an actress in the first place?

- SAR on

SAR- So Natalie has indeed done nudity in movies. Well, maybe she *gasp* CHANGED HER MIND about doing nudity. People have a right to do that, you know? And if all of her nude scenes have actually be partial nude scenes, maybe she meant full nude scenes. As for why she’s talked about the “girl-on-girl action” in her new movie, it’s called being contraculy obligited to do press to promote your movie. All actors and actresses do it. It doesn’t mean they aren’t private people by nature.

Also, she was likely asked by the interviewers of the various magazines about the “girl-on-girl” aspect of her movie and was just responding to them, rather than suddenly just speaking about it.

Waverly- I agree! That’s what I meant last night when I said that Natalie definitly doesn’t seek out publicity or court the media like some stars. If she did, she’d talk to tabloids often, make sure to be seen in public on a near-constant basis, and hang out at all the paparazzi hot spots. But she doesn’t do any of those things.

Cici- Natalie DID announce her pregnancy and engagement, but so do lots of other celebs. In fact, I’d say most celebs eventually announce their pregnancies. And talking about your kids in interviews is not pimping them out, IMO. It’s just answering reporters’ questions about them.

And really, if, for example, Jennifer Garner refused to answer questions from the media about her kids, she’d be blasted for that, too. Celebs really can’t win either way!

Alice- I agree! And as far as how Natalie’s relationship with her fiance’ began, we have absolutely no idea whether or not he actually cheated on his then-girlfriend with Natalie. He may have left her and THEN hooked up with Natalie for all we know.

Personally, I’d much prefer that a guy admit that he’d be happier with someone else and leave me rather than cheating on me with that person!

- CelebBabyLover on

SAR: Why do you even care about Natalie Portman’s openly available success anyway? You obviously don’t like her, so why not go and comment in another forum of someone you do like? I hate to break it to you though: many celebrities are publicized and I doubt you’ll find one on here to comment about that you’ll like, because…(and this may shock and surprise you, so consider yourself forewarned)…they are in the public eye!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!! The sheer insanity of it all!!!! hahahahaha, seriously, though…lighten up. It’s Natalie’s life — let her worry about her own publicity.

CelebBabyLover: You’re totally right! :) Unlike many celebrities, Natalie doesn’t seek out attention or pull publicity stunts. She’s awesome, I think it’s so absurd how some people just enjoy hating on other people for no good reason.

- Waverly on

This is tiresome, Waverly. Why do YOU care about what I think about Natalie Portman? Why not just ignore what I say about her, if you dislike it so?

I think young women today could find a better role model than an overprivileged, vastly overrated, hypocritical actress who sheds her clothes every time she turns around despite REPEATEDLY claiming she “won’t do nudity”; who says she’s private but always seems to engage in behavior that garners publicity; who is pregnant out of wedlock; who has had an almost obscenely charmed life but does not seem to notice, much less appreciate, the fact; and who practically bragged about how she “barely ate” while making her latest movie — a lurid “All About Eve” ripoff with about an obsessive nutcase on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

So she went to Harvard. (My mother, who was poor, went to Stanford…on a full academic scholarship.) So she put out a line of vegan shoes that only the very rich, like herself, could afford…in a bad economy. So she’s acted in some movies. I’m afraid I’m not SO bowled over that I’m going to add to the hosannas being sung to her.

- SAR on

@SAR, just shut up already, you nasty bitch. You are blind to reason, and you’re an idiot.
