Emily Procter Reveals Her Unusual Pregnancy Predictor

11/08/2010 at 04:00 PM ET
Michael Williams/Startraks

Emily Procter‘s discovery that she was expecting her first child with her boyfriend, musician Paul Bryan, was anything but traditional.

“We had been trying and had been very unsuccessful,” the CSI: Miami actress shares in the November issue of Pregnancy.

“I had a dream and there was this old woman and she came to me and she said, ‘Sweetie, you’re pregnant.’”

One pregnancy test later and the exciting news was confirmed. “I got up in the middle of the night and took a pregnancy test, and it was true!” she says.

Despite her “rough” start with morning sickness, Procter’s pregnancy is getting a whole lot sweeter — literally.

“I’ve been craving fruit. I love fruit in a way that I never knew I could,” she admits. “I thought to myself, ‘I’ve never eaten this much fruit in my life, why is my waistline getting so big?’”

Excited to experience motherhood come December, Procter has spent the final few months planning for baby’s arrival. “I think I’m over-preparing,” she laughs. “I have us signed up for baby CPR, if we’ve done our homework then no matter what life throws at us, we’ll be prepared.”

That said, one thing Procter won’t be signing up for is a homebirth. “My boyfriend suggested we have a water birth, to which I replied, ‘Are you going to clean the tub?’ That’s usually my job, and I’m not doing it,” she jokes.

“I will definitely go to the hospital — I am no spring chicken. I told Paul, ‘Look, if I were 25, maybe we could have a homebirth. I’m 41. We’re going to the hospital!’”

I catch CSI occasionally in the afternoon and she is a great actress, she seems so down to earth even when she’s acting, it’s really hard to tell she’s even acting actually! I’d like to see her in movies. Also saw her on Chelsea Lately the other night and she’s so cute and pregnant, she’ll be a great Mama:) Can’t wait to see what she names her little one.

beth on

she looks like she’s had some work done on her face.
like a bad filler job or something.

Ari on

that’s because she’s having a girl, i bet!!

Kat on

A doctor told me once that if a woman craves fruit and vegetables its probably a girl, and if you crave a lot of junk food or meat, it’s probably a boy.

Ashley on

I’m pretty sure her face looks a little different because she’s carrying some of the pregnancy weight in the face. That’s usually how you can tell when an actress if really pregnany on a show or just faking it.

Jennifer on

She’s just got that pregnancy puffy face. I’ve known lots of women who gained a lot in their face, especially right at the end, me included. It’s mainly water weight and it will come right off after delivery.

I have not watched CSI in awhile but I always liked her and it was nice to hear a (natural) southern accent on TV.

Sarah M. on

Kat – I think it depends. Tiffani Thiessen (Saved By the Bell) said that she’s a vegetarian and craved red meat during her pregnancy. She wound up having a girl. (I’m pretty sure it was Tiffani Thiessen. It may have been another actress, though.) I think with most of that stuff it just depends on each woman and each pregnancy. ;-)

I’m curious on what she’ll have and the name they choose.

She should know that you don’t have to have a home birth in order to have a water birth these days. Many hospitals these days provide water birthing tubs as a part of in-hospital birthing centers/rooms. She should look into whether any of the hospitals in her area offer birthing rooms with a water birthing tub.

Ella on

@Ari – I was thinking the same thing. My sister-in-law’s face changed when she was pregnant w/ her daughter.

Anna S on

How can you have a water birth if you’re going to deliver by c-section? She said on the talk the other day that she’s having a c-section…It would be kinda of messy wouldn’t it?? lol

Alison on

I saw that too Anna, but she said that right now the baby is breech and it may just get ‘lifted out.’ They’re probably not 100% sure yet and waiting to see if the baby turns itself before they schedule anything. I had a similar situation but luckily she turned at 37 weeks and I delivered at 39.

Emily must be getting really excited. Their baby will be beautiful, I’m sure, and I am looking forward to hearing the name they pick out!

CelebBabyLover on

Alison- I’m glad they’re waiting to see if the baby turns itself. She’s still got a month to go, so there’s still a very good chance that the baby could turn! :) I realize that there ARE exceptions when it comes to waiting for the baby to turn itself. My mother, for example, knew she was going to have a C-section well before I was born. I was transverse (sideways), and the shape of her uterus (she has an abnormally shaped one) meant that it would be pretty much impossible for me to turn into the correct position.

Anyway, I hope Emily has a positive birth experience, whichever way her little one comes into the world (and for some reason, I’m getting a girl vibe!).

Also, I LOVE the story about how she found out she was pregnant. :)

Allie-Rose on

@ Sarah M. – I don’t know about Tiffany Thiessen, but I remember Alyson Hannigan, who was (is?) a vegan, said she was craving meat and cheese. And she had a girl too

Lis on

@CelebBabyLover – that’s funny! I too delivered my son via c-section because he was breech and also because I have an abnormally shaped uterus; “heart shaped” (TMI…sorry!) – just found it interesting ;)

Amanda on

I craved sweets and junk with my daughters and fruits/veggies/meat with my son. The big thing that actually made me think my son was a boy was the fact that I could not eat chocolate and I *love* chocolate. My face definitely puffed up with my girls too, whereas it didn’t with my son and my skin was wonderful with him, not so much with the other two.

It does seem common when a woman is expecting a girl for her face to swell a bit, nose too. I’ve seen it in a lot of women I know.

If I had to guess by looking at her I’d say girl.

Michelle on

I LOVE Emily on CSI!!! She looks soooo adorable!!!! I am so happy for her and her boyfriend. No matter the sex of the baby, everyone carries their baby weight differently and they crave different things with each child. I wish them the best of luck!!!!

annie on

It’s unfortunate that she’s given into the Hollywood obsession with fillers and botox. It changed her smile dramatically. She had the changes months before she was pregnant. The look is so unnatural that I had to stop watching CSI.

Lilianne on

I don’t know about the cravings for having a boy vs. girl. I have been trying to remember back when I was pregnant(I have daughters) but I didn’t really have pregnancy cravings. I also hope for her sake she is able to avoid having a C-section because they are very hard to recover from! As for her looks…I used to watch CSI Miami quite regularly, but haven’t for a couple of years now. I always thought she was SO beautiful and fresh looking. I did look at some photographs and found an article that claimed she had plastic surgery. I have no idea if it is true or not but I can say that I sincerely hope not. Only because it makes me sad to think that someone as pretty as she is would think she needed it!

Bancie1031 on

I love Emily on CSI:Miami! I am getting the girl vibe with her :-) I think her face looks different because of the pregnancy …. maybe weight gain ….. she’s still pretty :-)

Teri on

To BETH: It’s not a bad filler job, it’s called you’re pregnant and full of fluid. That’s the first thing I noticed when I saw her pic…she’s full of fluid.

Anne on

Kat, I have a boy and a girl. I had a boy first and wanted nothing to do with meat the first pregnancy and craved fruit! The second time I had a girl and craved cake and fruit at the same time.

Gwyn on

She looks like she has had her lips filled and I think it ruined her looks. Hope it is the pregnancy.

Sara on

I wish Emily the best with her new baby. She looks and sounds very happy. But I do have to agree with those who are of the opinion that she’s had some work done on her face and that the results have altered her appearance … and not for the better. And Annie is right. These changes to her facial features happened before the pregnancy. The work she had done didn’t do her any favors. :-(

Pat on

Hope she gives the baby a sensible name, unlike some of these celebrities. All the best to them both and the new baby.

John Wynn on

I and the world can’t wait for the arrival of Emily and Paul’s baby to make its debut into the world and it will be anytime soon. All of Emily’s cast members will be so happy to the little one of Emily and Paul’s. I have enjoyed watching you and your friends on CSI:Miami and can not wait to see more of the show.

Patricia on

I love the show. Dose any body know what she had. I see every body else babies up but not hers. I would like to know what she had. cant wait to see Sunday exposed. I don’t miss it.

Anonymous on

I’m her photo-double. She is very nice and down to earth and hasn’t been working too much on the show so she can have time with her baby. :)

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
