Baby K’tan Makes Babywearing a ‘Breeze’

Courtesy of Baby K’tan

If you’re looking for a lightweight baby carrier that keeps your baby cool, try the new Baby K’tan Breeze carrier ($65). Available in black and white, it’s made of a breathable mesh and soft cotton fabric mix that reduces heat and moisture.

Even better? It offers the same double loop design as the original Baby K’tan carrier used by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Ellen Pompeo, Julia Roberts, Sara Gilbert, Laila Ali and Patrick Dempsey.

“The double-loop design gives added security and privacy while nursing and allows parents to carry their infants and toddlers from birth to 42 pounds,” says owner Michal Chesal. “It also features built-in back support bands to keep mom and dad comfortable.”

I really don’t get it: WHY does CBB promote those rubbish front-carrying baby carrier again and again.

This carrier is terrible – for the baby’s back and for the carrier. A good carrier like the Ergo or the Beco don’t offer carrying the baby with it’s face front-facing and the part between the legs is much too thin. Babies shouldn’t be carried “hanging” but in the M-position with a round back.

I’m no parent here and I really don’t know so please don’t put up mean responses, but why can’t parents just carry their children or just put them in a stroller or something? I think it’s easier than carrying that big thing around.

- Lily on

That is such a cute photo. lol

what an adorable little baby!
The carrier looks a bit uncomfortable though. It seems like the design places the bulk of the weight on the narrow strip between the baby’s legs… and that can’t be too healthy for the kid.

Lily, no mean response from me. I have three kids, a three-year-old, 20-month-old and a 2-month-old. I don’t often use a carrier, but I will sometimes if I’m at a store with all three of them. It frees my hands to grab items or one of my kids. Strollers and shopping carts with multiple kids don’t go hand-in-hand unless you have more than one adult.

I have a Baby K’tan and LOVE it! There are many different ways to carry your baby in it and its very secure and good for baby. I have tried many carriers/slings and always loved my K’tan. Throw it in the diaper bag and your ready to go, no clumsy strollers to mess with. Women have been babywearing for centuries, its good for both mom and baby. I am thrilled to see CBB endorse babywearing!

Lily, I’m no parent either but I don’t see how this is bigger than a stroller!! When I see people trying to get a huge stroller in a crowded bus I wish they had one of those instead. Plus it keeps your baby close to you leaving your hands free to hold other things.

- Alice on

that is not the only way to wear a baby ktan, by the way. you can wear them in many different ways, including facing in and cradle. and it’s much easier to wear your baby than carry them or stroll them around with that “big thing” called a stroller!!!!!

- dd on

Yea I didn’t really think of the stroller size, haha, well thanks you guys for the helpful responses:)

That photo is so cute. The baby looks super happy. There is nothing wrong with these carriers. If there was they would have been forbidden by now.

When I had my children many years ago,in the eighties, I carried them in a front carrier first and when they were older a back-pack style carrier. My children were tall for their age and I think I stopped using the back-pack carrier when they were around 18-months-old. I am 51 now and I get a lot of pain in my neck, shoulders and upper back. I can tell you now, there is no way you want to be lugging around a 42-pound-child in a carrier. I don’t care how well designed the carrier is, that’s just too much weight.

- Kresta on

Hmmm, Lily, I don’t know what your experiece with strollers is, but as a former nanny, babysitter and day care worker I can say, that I have never come across any stroller that is even close to being as small as this baby carrier or any other soft baby carrier I have seen. Carrying your babe in arms is absolutely wonderful, until you need one or both of your hands free to open a door, hold another childs hand, carry a shopping bag, pick up your purse, do the dishes, put in a load of laundry, pick upp a dropped pacifier, hold on to something in the bus, you name it! Plus it gives your back and stomach muscles a nice work out ;-)

I love my Baby K’tan carrier! you can actually wear it facing in too, so if you don’t like the facing out position, just don’t do it. This baby looks super happy and i don’t see a problem. you can also spread the fabric a lot wider to make a wider seat for baby if you want, but i love my K’tan. it is so easy to use and so comfy.

- Tammy on

This is actually a really nice carrier for the newborn stage–I would never wear my baby facing forward in it since they dangle by the crotch–much better when they face towards the wearer. It is a quick in and out carry for me. When my baby gets older, I will wear her on my back with a structured carrier or mei tai

- Michelle on

Haha, Denise. That was the first thing I noticed, another baby dangling from the crotch. It just doesn’t seem all that comfy for me. I prefer the ergo myself, & I’m actually quite bummed that my daughter is phasing herself out of it.

Lilly, my experience with a carrier is that even though I only have 1, it’ was really difficult to do any amount of grocery shopping done by myself. I would put the carseat carrier on the shopping cart, but I couldn’t see over it & would often run into things & she would be too small to sit in the seat. With the carrier, I could put my daughter on my back & not have to worry about bumping into anything & she would often fall asleep. Also, I like to go on hikes, & you can’t really bring a stroller. Besides, after a while of carrying a baby around, your arms tend to get tired.

- MG on

are we sure that baby is still breathing? because he looks to be getting strangled by that contraption

- ezpeze on

What a beautiful photo:) baby is gourgous, and the model is HOTTT:)

- kaylee on

ezpeze, that is one of the most ridiculous comments here yet. the baby can clearly breath just fine – in fact, he looks happy! and is adorable!

- Tammy on

Lily, besides the convenience, you might look up the benefits of babywearing to understand why a carrier and not the stroller (most of the time). Babies who are worn usually cry less, and spend more time in a state of quiet alertness. It’s also just great for parents to hold and snuggle their babes and still be hands free to do other things.

- Olivia on

@ezpeze: just a tip, if the baby is smiling it’s definitely breathing, strangled babies don’t smile ;-)

- MiB on

Lily, you asked a good question and have gotten some great answers! I’ll throw in another point of view. I’m disabled and have to use a walker at home and a wheelchair everywhere else. When I’m toting my one year old niece, I wear her in a mei tie carrier so that my hands are free. If it wasn’t for that carrier, I wouldn’t be able to “carry” her at all. I’m so thankful that I can snuggle her close to my heart just like I did all of her older sisters!

- Tee on

@MiB thanks for the nice way you made your comment, I needed a good laugh and the baby is a cutie :-)

- loren on

I love this carrier! I have 8 children and wore then all. I’ve had many different carriers and thi is the most comfortable and simple, lightweight and convenient. I have used it with my premi 4 ib grandson and my 20 poubd one year old (while hiking)!
