James Van Der Beek Welcomes Daughter Olivia

Dawson is a dad.

James Van Der Beek and wife Kimberly Brook Van Der Beek welcomed a daughter, Olivia, on Saturday, Sept. 25. And the actor, 33, is already gushing with emotion.

“Had the blessing of becoming a father over the weekend… Couldn’t come close to describing this bliss even if I had 140 million characters,” the former star of Dawson’s Creek and Mercy announced on Twitter.

Adds the actor: “Olivia Van Der Beek, born 9/25. I apologize in advance for any obnoxiously precious new-dad tweets that may follow. I’m under her spell.”

Baby Olivia weighed in at 7 lbs., 2 oz. and is 19.5 inches long, the proud papa tells PEOPLE.

The Van Der Beeks were married in August. “Best day of my life so far,” he Tweeted at the time – although perhaps that’s now been eclipsed by the new arrival.

Congratulations to the happy new parents! My youngest daughter’s name is Olivia. When I had her 12 years ago, I thought that there weren’t alot of Olivia’s out there! Well, I guess I was wrong!! LOL. I am still glad I called her Olivia, as I know if I didn’t, I would have regretted it eventually. Princess Olivia. God bless this beautiful new family!!

What wonderful news! Another girl for the Dawson’s Creek crew. First Michelle, then Katie, now James. I’m now waiting for Joshua to have a daughter too.

Anyway, congrats to James and Kimberly on the birth of their new baby girl. He already sounds like he’s going to be an amazing father, and Olivia sure is going to be one lucky baby with a father who dotes on her.

Love the name Olivia, it’s my youngest’s name. When there was a post on suggestions for their daughter’s name, I said Olivia in one of the comments, I believe. Not to say I’m the reason they named her Olivia, but just saying I love the name. Congrats James and Kimberly.
