Vera Farmiga Desires a Delivery Surprise

She may be only a “few more weeks” away from giving birth, but that’s not stopping Vera Farmiga from stepping out in extremely high heels at the Grey Goose Entertainment’s Iconoclasts party Tuesday at LAVO in N.Y.C.

“You have to balance it out,” the fashionable actress, 37, tells PEOPLE.

Farmiga, however, doesn’t know if her future includes a daughter to lend shoes to.

“We don’t know what we’re having yet. I just want to have a healthy baby,” she explains.

Although she and husband Renn Hawkey both come from large families consisting of “seven kids each,” don’t expect them to follow suit.

“The world is [too] overpopulated to go that route and we met 10 years too late for that,” she laughs.

Still, she says they are eager to grow their family and 20-month old son Fynn is becoming more curious about mom’s bump.

“I get the feeling he’s starting to [realize he’s going to have a sibling] because when I [show him my stomach] and say, ‘Baby. Baby. This is going to be your baby sibling,’ he repeats the word baby. He presses his mouth [to my belly], takes my shirt and goes, ‘Close. Close,’ to kind of distinguish the idea of there being someone else in my life,” she explained.

And what character traits might the new little one pick up from Fynn?

“He’s really gentle and whimsy … a real peacemaker. He’s been around adults quite a bit from traveling with us on the job. I have more time on my hands — especially now that I’m approaching delivery. I have time to take him out and immerse him in the world of children,” she said.

“He has such an amount of patience when he is around other children. He has as much energy [as other kids], but I just see, for example, how he deals with toys being taken from him,” she notes. “He’s super cool about it. He’s suave and relaxed and if someone grabs a toy, he’ll take what’s fallen by the wayside. It’s a remarkable quality to have. He’s got a spirit that’s just so relaxed.”

Oohh I hope its a girl!! Fynn is a cute name, except I like it better spelled Finn, when I see Fynn, I see it first as Flynn. But it’s not my business anyway. She seems really nice and down to earth and I wish them the best with their new baby.

Very cute! I have to say, when I first heard that she was pregnant, I thought she was a little old to have a baby but that is because the picture they used when they announced it, (blue dress at Met Gala) she looked a lot older in that pic. I actually went and looked up her age. Love her hair like this!

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
