There’ll be a new regular on the set of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia this fall.

Costars Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney welcomed their first child, son Axel Lee McElhenney, at 12:52 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at their California home, they tell PEOPLE exclusively. He weighed in at 8 lbs., 7 oz.

“I went into labor at the Phillies/Dodgers game on Tuesday night,” says Olson, 35.

“As soon as Ryan Howard hit a three-run home run, we felt comfortable leaving to go have our baby. We love him like crazy, even though he made us miss the second half of the game.”

The FX cult comedy hit, which McElhenney created and executive produces, will return for its sixth season on Sept. 16.

I’ve been waiting for this one. Congrats to them! It sounds like the homebirth went well, how awesome!

Sonya on

Glad she got to have a homebirth she wanted:-)

Didn’t they say that they weren’t using Axel because it became popular? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Jenny on

@ Sonya, I think that was Alana De la Garza (at least, I think that’s her name.)

Jenny on

Congrats to them!!! πŸ™‚ I’m glad she got to have a homebirth and that it went well. I like how Axel sounds with Lee. I bet he’s a handsome little fella and I can’t wait to see a picture of him.

Romy on

I like Axel

ForeverMoore on

He sounds like a cool kid already, with a name like that! Congrats to them…I was just thinking about her today πŸ˜€

crimpe on

I like the name – then again, my son’s name is Axel. It’s a family name, so I don’t mind if it gets popular.

Congrats to them! My HBACs were great and I hope her home birth was just as good.

XoXo on

I think its appropriate it was @ a Phillies/Dodgers game since they’re on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia LOL.

DevilDocsWife on

Congrats to the two of them! I love the name Axel.

Nikole on

Yay! I’m so glad everything went well. I know someone due in 2 weeks with a boy named Axel. It is cute.

No idea who these people are, but who won the game?

YAAAAY!!!! I’ve been waiting for her to have her baby to see what they’d name him!!! SOOO happy for her, and SO happy it sounds like she got the home birth she wanted!!! Can’t wait for the new season!

Elle on

His name sounds like “actually”…not my favorite combo.

I have to admit, I really love it when I hear about someone that gets the birth that they have planned. I love it even more when they’ve planned a homebirth! Congratulations on baby Axel!

CelebBabyLover on

Glad she got her homebirth!

Whitney on

when did naming your son after a car part or an ax become popular?

Tess on

Whitney – Axel is a Scandinavian name. The name meaning is axe, though.

Jacqui on

It’s also a common name for boys in Germany. Great name! My best friend’s husband is named Axel – he’s from Berlin – the name has served him well!

Kelley on

Tess- Phils won the game.

crimpe on

Whitney – my great-grandfather was Swedish, his name was Axel. It’s actually the Scandinavian form of Absolom – his father was a Lutheran minister. He had brothers with biblical names as well, like Abel. No one in my family was named after a car part or an axe. My son likes his name.

Congratulations to Kaitlin & Rob on their “tiny boy, little boy, baby boy”;-)

Tess on

Kelley – thanks. I guess the Philly theme worked well then. πŸ™‚

Masters of conception, aaaah-AAAAH-aaaah! Congratulations to everyone!

JM on

congrats to them. as i’ve said before i don’t like the name Axel at all because it sounds like the German word for armpit πŸ˜€ (so you can understand that connotation, if you heard someone call their child armpit). but not my kid so it’s none of my business. just stating my opinion. anyway, i hope that all are happy and healthy.

Moore on

I’m glad they got their homebirth! So encouraging to hear when it goes well.

J on

Oh for pete’s sake just say your comment without the “it’s none of my business just stating my opinion crap. We’re all big boys and girls, we can handle a few comments.

Hea on

JM – I think we’ve talked about this before. πŸ™‚ Axel in Swedish is a shoulder.

It’s a very common name in, you know, other places around our big Earth, Whitney.

MiB on

Thank you crimpe and Hea! The name Axel has got nothing to do with car parts or axes, or even arm pits. The name is Scandinavian and came to Germany as part of the “scandinavian wave”, this is why there are way more young Sven and BjΓΆrn in Germany than in Sweden, Axel is still very common in Sweden though. Congratulations to the new parents.

So the baby isn’t named “Dumpster Baby”? Awww….

I bet he will know how to do karate and backflips!

Sunny is hands down the funniest show on television. I don’t follow the actors in real life (it’s hard for me to see them as anyone but Mac and Dee), but I’m so happy for them. I actually just found out they were even together, and didn’t learn of the baby until the most recent episode of Sunny. For the baby’s sake, let’s hope they’re nothing like their characters on the show! πŸ˜€

Congrats to Rob & Kaitlyn on a beautiful baby boy. Hands Down, the Best Show On Television. Laughter makes the heart healthy.

Obviously, no one has anything better to do than criticize other people for stupid things that have nothing to do with them. Get a life people!! Maybe then you can stop worrying about everyone else’s!
