Jennie Finch on Making a Hotel a Home

Home is where the heart is has become a saying Jennie Finch knows all too well.

The Olympic softball player and her husband, Houston Astros pitcher Casey Daigle bring their 4-year-old son Ace Shane on the road with them — and are learning to adjust to their ever-changing surroundings.

“It can be an emotional rollercoaster because you look forward to the time you have with your family and then all of a sudden it’s only two days,” Finch tells Babble.

“We all try to enjoy the time that we do have together and know that it’s only for a short while, but we’re making the most of it.”

Jennifer Garner Hopes Healthy Habits Will Rub Off on Daughters

For mom-of-two Jennifer Garner, the effort to raise healthy children requires leading by example.

“I think if your kids see you exercising they’ll grow up exercising,” she says in a recent interview with iVillage.

“They’ll assume that it’s always part of life; If they think it feels good to move your body, they’ll want to do it as they get older.”

In fact, most days daughters Violet Anne, 4½, and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, 19 months, sit down to breakfast with a post-workout Garner.

“[They'll ask] ‘Where were you?’” Garner reveals. “[I tell them] ‘I was just working out, it’s important for me.’”

Many Hands: Family-Friendly Tunes that Give Back to Haiti

After the Jan. 12 earthquake that destroyed much of Haiti, family musician Dean Jones found himself feeling helpless and desperately wanting to help the country’s people.

Jones — who is also lead vocalist of kid-friendly band Dog of Fleas — felt a strong urge to do something that could help the ongoing rebuilding effort. It didn’t take long for him to come up with the idea to create a benefit album or to convince several of his fellow family musicians to sign on.

“When I had the idea for the CD, I knew without a doubt that I could count on the big-hearted kindie community,” says Jones. “The generosity and the amazing work of all the musicians and everyone involved definitely exceeded my initial expectations.”

To make it happen, Jones tapped music producer and KindieFest cofounder Bill Childs, who along with his kids, produces the weekly radio show Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child.
