I don’t know about a party for that, but I LOVE the idea of using a cake with icing inside. Maybe at like a family barbeque or something. It’s SO cute.

Hahaha, I’m totally guilty of throwing ‘sex parties’ for my younger three kids. We had a blue cake made for our little boy, and a purple cake for our twins (b/g twins). It was a nice way to celebrate the healthy pregnancies and was basically just an excuse for the family to get together and have a great time. May not be for everybody but we loved them🙂

i don’t have a problem with that party, whatever floats people’s boats. But this comment:

“The thought of celebrating the news at a sterile medical building made her stomach turn. And that’s never a good thing when you’re pregnant.”

seems so shallow and immature. You want stomach churning, think of the people who are hoping they won’t be told “your baby is severely handicapped / in need of surgery at birth / won’t live to 5 years old.” It just seems petty to say “ewww, I found out the gender at the doctor’s office.”

Hahaha Bethan, that sounds like so much fun. I love the purple for twins. And I don’t think it’s tacky or anything, I just don’t think I would have the energy to throw a whole party lol.

I also thought the comment about celebrating in a medical building was odd. I understand celebrating the gender, but I would be celebrating having a healthy baby even more. You aren’t going to wait to find out if your baby is healthy at a later time. I just thought it was weird.

The special olympics story was frustrating to me. I can see how the special olympics could view the dog as being a liability, though with the number of kids who use service dogs I was surprised that they couldn’t figure out a way to accommodate the girl. But to not allow her to keep the O2 tank in a backpack?! When they have precedent of allowing that in the past??? That seems WRONG. I wonder if there is more to the story. Otherwise, I think I’d sue as her parents too.

It was, Erika, it really was. When we brought out the purple cake, everybody was really confused (we hadn’t known that we were having twins at that time :D) and then overjoyed. It was just a really nice way to celebrate being pregnant.

Plus, we held a raffle for some small gifts and my sister and her husband took bets on the babies names (from a list we’d already prepared). All the proceeds, we donated them to the hospital where I had my kids (to the NICU). Plus, the guy who won the bet donated his prize too, so it really made the day even more special😀
