Catherine Bell Welcomes Son Ronan

Sara DeBoer/Startraks

It’s a boy for Catherine Bell!

The Army Wives star delivered her second child, son Ronan, on Saturday, Aug. 21 in Charleston, South Carolina, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Baby Ronan arrived at 8:29 a.m. weighing in at 7 lbs., 7 oz. and is 19 3/4 inches long. He joins big sister Gemma, 7.

Bell, 42, and husband Adam Beason announced the pregnancy in February. The season finale of Army Wives airs Sunday at 10 p.m on Lifetime.

- Lilith's mommy on

Congratulations to Catherine, Adam and Gemma for the new baby.

- Corinne on

Congratulations; Is she living in South Carolina ?? I like the name

- karine on

i’m really loving the name ronan. i really don’t like the middle name because it sounds too feminine for a boy to me.

- ABC 123 on

Ugh, thats my favorite baby name!!! sads. congrats to her.

- Blythe on

Congrats! That name is starting to grow on me. Im sure baby Ronan is beautiful!

- aj on

Yay! I love both her kids’ names:-)

- Sonya on

Karine – Yes, she is living in South Carolina. I’m not sure if it’s a year round thing, or if it’s just while Army Wives is shooting, though. I get the impression that they live there the whole time, though. She’s said that she absolutely loves life there and the slower pace and more friendly feel there over L.A.

I didn’t used to like the name Ronan, but it has grown on me. Congrats to the whole family!!

- Sarah M. on

Yay, congratulations! I love the name!

- klutzy_girl on

Congrats! Love the first name, and think it’s awesome he has her last name! Well why not? She had to carry him! Sweet!

- Theresa on

Theresa, I think Bell is possibly his middle name.

And I love that tonight is the season finale of Army Wives (can’t wait!) and that Denise is delivering the day after Catherine has the baby!

- klutzy_girl on

Congrats! We have been considering that name for our baby boy due soon. Considering how trendy it is we may be choosing something else. But I do love the name!

- Sami on

Congrats to them! I’m sure he’s beautiful.

I love her daughters name? Gemma is so pretty. But Ronan? Ackk I hate that name. Every time I hear it, it makes me cringe because. It doesn’t sound like a name at all. It sounds like it was something someone made up. But it’s their child not mine, so as long as they like it…

- Erika on

Congrats!

Ronan is a cute name. I don’t see a middle name. I think Bell is his last name. And I also think it’s quite cool that he has his last name. Maybe their daughter has her husband’s last name.

- Mira on

congrats on the new baby boy.

- lea on

So the baby has her last name? That’s great!

- L. on

I took it to mean his middle name is Bell, and we just assume they are adding Beason as the last name.

- Marilyn on

Actually, Erika, the name Ronan has been around for a long time. Before the year 2000 it wasn’t used much, but since then it has been climbing in popularity. It’s of Celtic (or Gaelic) origin and means ‘little seal’. It was the name of a 5th century Irish saint. That means it most definitely isn’t made up, then. And I’d personally MUCH prefer Ronan over Apple/Peanut/etc. any day of the week!!!

If Ronan’s last name is Bell, then I wonder what Gemma’s is? Perhaps, as others have suggested, she has day’s last name…

- Sarah M. on

Blythe- There’s no reason you can’t still use the name!

- CelebBabyLover on

Yes Ronan is a common name here in Ireland and as Sarah M points out it has been around for a long time. Rón means “seal” in our beautiful first language Irish.

- Twinkle on

Sarah M. you beat me to it! :-D
Though this is actually the first non irish or british Ronan I’ve heard of!

- MiB on

I love Catherine …. congratulations to her and her family on the new addition

- Bancie1031 on

Love the name Ronan…I have a son named Ronin, and his name always gets compliments! And it is definitely not a made up name with either spelling…Ronin is the English version of the Japanese name. It is derived from the Japanese term for “masterless samurai” and has been around since the 12th century B.C.

- AH-G on

Gemma’s last name is Beason. I assume it’s Ronan Bell Beason too.

- Sky on

Oh, I can imagine Gemma is completely overjoyed! It must be great fun to be seven years old and become a big sister or brother. Congrats to them all and I love the name.

- Hea on

My son’s name is Ronan and I was so thrilled to see Catherine Bell gave her son the name. When my husband first suggested it I liked it, but was still looking for that “better” name. But then I realized Ronan is the best name and I get so many compliments on it. It is just a nice strong name for a boy! And it is not an off the wall name, it is just not common, especially in the USA.

- Stacey on

Sami,
I would not consider Ronan trendy at all. She is the first celebrity I have ever seen use that name and have only come across 3 or 4 boys named Ronan in the past 4 years. So, you should really consider the name if you have a son. It is just a great solid name. Good luck!

- Stacey on

“Lilith’s Mommy”, I don’t know that you can really comment on a name when you give yours a name like that. Lilith? Whatever, not my kid.

- Sky on

Congrats!!!!!

- Rosie on

” Lilith’s mommy” is only my username here. I’m ttc my first child right now and I’m entitled to my opinion.

- Lilith's mommy on

Congrats!!!

- Rosie on

AH-G, Ronin and Ronan are two completely different names with completely different origins, they may sound and look similar, but they are definitely not the same name with different spelling, like Mary and Marie or Stephen and Steven.

- MiB on

Congratulations !!! I’m so happy for Catherine and her family. :D

- Cam on

Congratulations on a healthy baby boy! We love the name Ronan, we are expecting our first child this winter and will name our baby Ronan if it’s a boy :) A great, strong Irish name!!

- Mommy-to-be on

Blessings to you and your family!

- Laura on

MiB, I know that Ronin and Ronan are two different names (obviously, since I named my son Ronin!), but they sound exactly alike. And I like them both!

- AH-G on

Where in this article does it say his last name is Bell, it says Catherine Bell has a baby boy named Ronan??????????????????????

- Donna on

My son’s name is Ronan too!!! Named after the Irish Tenor, Ronan Tynan.

- jlybn120 on

Congrats to Catherine on her new bundle of joy! I love the name. In fact if our latest addition would have been a boy Ronan was the name we had picked. It is a form of the name Ronald, which is a very dear family name…Very strong name.

- Sass on

Congrats on the baby.. Loved the season finale of army wives.. cant wait till the next season, big fan..

- Z on

Congrats on your new baby boy!!!!!!!!! Love the name.

- Kathie on

Donna- At first the article DID say his name was Ronan Bell. Moms & Babies must have taken it down for some reason.

- CelebBabyLover on

One more: Congratulations with son Ronan!

- Erica on

Debra Messing’s son is named Ronan, so Catherine isn’t the 1st celebrity to use the name. I’m not fond of it, but I am very very happy for her.

- leahsmom on

Debra Messing’s child is called Roman with an “m” not Ronan.
