After tying the knot in May, Alanis Morissette has more big news to share — she’s pregnant.

The singer-songwriter, 36, and husband Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway are expecting their first child, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

“Yes, happy news … I’m pregnant,” Morissette Tweeted Wednesday morning. “We’re so excited to start our family.”

No word on a due date for the baby on the way.

Congratulations to Alanis and her husband! Can’t wait to find out her due date, and what she’s having.

Oh, how exciting! How neat would it be if she came out with a lulluby CD? :)

And goodness, it looks like she could be pregnant in that picture, not judging by her belly, but by her other “features”, LOL!!!

Hi there. Typically most celebrities wait until they are at least 12 weeks to let people know that they are pregnant to get past the “safe” time frame. Even though as women we are risk for miscarriage at anytime. Getting past 12 weeks is great for anyone. I wouldn’t definitely believe that she is Due around Valentines Day baby. She would be a great mom. I hope she is happy.

There was a pregnancy rumor when they got married, glad to see it’s true:-)

Terri on

Is that a recent photo? If not, I don’t remember her being so generously endowed before. Alanis looks beautiful.

Sonya on

This photo is from The Prince of Persia premiere on May 17th.

I guess if rumors were swirling back then and she looked like this (more photos: http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/ZWI4Yf_rngX/Prince+Of+Persia+Premiere/h64vy7C9jXn/Alanis+Morissette), she’s at least 5 months pregnant.

Lots of pregnancy announcements (not to mention birth announcements) lately! And I’ve noticed something interesting about them. It used to be that, more often that not, when a celeb announced her pregnancy (or his girlfriend’s/wife’s pregnancy in the case of a male celeb), she would also announce what month she was due.

But now things seemed to have reveresed: Now more often than not, celebs DON’T announce any sort of due date when they announce their pregnancies. Any ideas why this sudden change? Not criticizing, just wondering why the trend seems to have changed.

All of that said, congrats to Alanis and her husband!

She is 5 months along, due in December!

Congratulations Alanis and Mario! That’s amazing! I just love Alanis, but I can’t imagine her as a mommy.
Me and my friends (Alanis’s fans) can’t stop doing jokes about Alanis as a mom hehehe.

CelebBabyLover – I’ve noticed the same thing (not announcing the due date). Perhaps it has something to do with the paps getting worse (not that they were wonderful before, but at least they were better than they are now) and worse lately. Jennifer Garner asking for their families pics not to be shown for a bit (I guess issues @ Violet’s school), Tori & Dean playing their little trick on the paps when Tori had Stella, many videos of celebs yelling at paps to get out of the way of parking lot entrances so that they can simply leave without having to practically run them over (or similar videos), etc. Several have actually given due dates the last few years, but many of the babies have been born closer to a month earlier than the due date they had given. (I can see this with multiples and some singletons, but there have been too many for it to be a coincidence, I think!) Perhaps this is either their way of keeping people guessing longer or just trying to make the last few months of pregnancy and the delivery less stressful for them?

I guess we’ll find out when she’s due when either they tell us or we hear a birth announcement!!

CelebBabyLover on

Monika- So far it’s just the tabloids saying that. Until Alanis gives her due date, we won’t know just when baby-on-the way is due. :)

MJ on

I don’t want to sound full of myself, but I’ve been a fan of hers for 14 years and follow her career/life quite closely, and am very sure of that information. She is 5 months along!
