Kelly Rutherford: ‘I Really Want to Be Involved’ with Kids

Some things really are worth the wait, and for Kelly Rutherford none more so than son Hermés Gustaf Daniel, 3½, and daughter Helena Grace, 14 months.

In a new interview with Pint Size Social, the Gossip Girl star says she delights in spending all her free time with her two children with ex-husband Daniel Giersch.

“In this day and age, every mom is different and every relationship with their children is different,” she points out. “It depends on how involved you want to be, and I really want to be involved.”

Noting that her schedule allows her more flexibility than most — Rutherford works just one-to-four days per week, with three-to-four months off each year — the actress, 41, admits she’s “very fortunate.”

“I waited a long time to have kids and I’ve had 20 years of great work thankfully, and I hope to continue to work,” she adds. “I love my job and what I do.”

Her self-confidence is rooted in the example set by her own mom Ann Edwards, who worked outside the home while also remaining “very present” for Rutherford and her siblings.

“I think you can do both,” she muses, “but there is obviously more pressure on the woman than on the man because the man goes to work but he doesn’t have to be pregnant, or give birth or breastfeed.”

Between her success in Hollywood and her success at home, Rutherford says she wants for nothing.

“I wanted to be a mom,” she reveals of her childhood dreams. “I wanted to be so many things that I think that’s why I became an actress: it allows me to be everything.”

thats lovely, and very true..allot of really good points too amount more pressure of mums than dads, no one judges dads for going out to work or shock horror wanting to work and she is lucky to be able to shift and swap around so she can be around her children more than a single mum thats has to work all hours to support her kids or the women i like to call heros :)

i love love love my job and i can never express how much my two babies mean to me and i feel that my work makes me a better mother and my babies make me a better midwife. once you let go of the guilt others try to project on you, you can have it all and enjoy it too.

no mums the same no kids are either, don’t judge any one unless you have walked in their shoes is what i say :) :)
