It’s a girl for American Idol alum Tamyra Gray and her husband, Sam Watters!

The singer delivered daughter Sienna Marie on Saturday, July 17.

“We are overjoyed with the arrival of our little lady,” Gray, 30, tells PEOPLE. “I’ve never known love to this capacity. She smiles already and it just stills my heart.”

The couple decided upon their little girl’s name in quite the unique manner.

“We didn’t actually pick her name — she did,” says the new mom.

“I know it sounds weird, but back in February I had a dream where she told me her name. I shared my dream with Sam and we decided we’d wait and see. It took us eight hours after her birth to name her and at the end, we went with her suggestion.”

The couple, who wed in Italy in 2006, decided to wait until delivery to find out the sex of their baby, and it was actually Gray who got to make the official call.

“Sam delivered her — with the help of a midwife — but he forgot to look to see what she was,” recalls the singer. “So I actually was able to make the discovery and announce it.”

Earlier this year, Watters, 39, a music producer and former Color Me Badd member, said he had a feeling that the baby was a boy. When they welcomed a little girl, “I couldn’t believe it,” he told PEOPLE this week. “I was overjoyed though.”

The same goes for mom. “I instinctively knew it was a girl but I never shared my feelings with anyone,” says Gray, who has also appeared on episodes of Boston Public. “Of course, when my feelings were confirmed I was over the moon. I will now have someone to share in my love of fairies and tea.”

Congrats! Love the name! ❤

I’m going to use that “the baby told me in a dream” thing on my husband, since we’re having some name disputes.

Sam Watters was kind of fug back in the Color Me Badd days (sort of reminded me of Larry from The Three Stooges), but now he’s a fox. Rawr.

Good middle name I’m not biased at all 😉

Pretty first name too. Used to be on my list of names only I liked it as Ciana. I no longer have it on there because there is an overwhelming amount of names ending in “Anna”/”Ana” now.

Bart on

Is it me or does he look like a younger, live version of Mr. Burns???

wow I can only imagine how beautiful that little girl is!!

Bart, that cracked me up. Yeah, he kind of does.

Sienna Marie is okay. Marie is so 80s, though.

Congratulations to Tamyra&Sam,I always liked her on American Idol. She should have won that year.

I love the name. When I was pregnant with my daughter, who is now 4 yrs old. I was adamant on naming her Brooke Elizabeth. My sister’s best friend said she had a dream that the baby had to be named Emily Ann. I said Emily Ann? Wow that’s so weird because my mom (who passed away away 6 yrs ago) her middle name is Ann and my aunt, who is my mom’s sister, her middle name is Emily. My sister’s best friend was shocked cause she didn’t know that my aunt’s middle name was Emily, though she knew my mom’s middle name was Ann. Anyway, to make a long story short. I decided to not name my daughter the name I wanted and to name my daughter Emily Ann, the name the dream told me to name her. Very weird that the name picked her but very true. So I believe them when she says the baby said her name is Sienna Marie.

Congratulations! I have a funny memory about Sam. I saw him at a 98 Degrees concert over 10 years ago. My friend was a huge Color Me Badd fan but was too shy to approach him since we sat like 10 or so rows behind him. I get up to him to say, “I know who you are!” and he then totally denies he’s who I think he is. It was him cuz I knew he liked worked on 98 Degrees stuff. Just have to laugh when I see him! hehe Good to see he’s married a great gal!

First off, congrats on a healthy baby. Second, I had to comment on this. I never comment on these articles, but had to chime in this time. This is so weird! When I was pregnant with my last baby, she came to me in a dream, as well, but she was already about 6 or 7 years old. She told me her name was Mayah – gave me the spelling and all – and she looked just like she looks today. (She’s 11 now, though.) I was adamant about naming her that because I was absolutely certain it was her telling me what to name her. That’s freaky. I guess it’s more common for that to happen than I thought!

I had a dream where i was calling my (not born yet) son by a certain name. It wasn’t one we had considered – but we went with it, and it’s perfect for him. So I kind of believe Tamyra’s story 😉

I cringe every time I hear the middle name Marie! 50% of all the woman I know have that middle name. Try something original!

Nakia on

Yeah Mary they should try something ORIGINAL like “MARY” *rolleyes*

….or either Rose or Grace, LOL.

I have an almost 12 year old, named Siena…I chose to spell it like the city in Italy not the color. Either way I still think it’s a beautiful name.

That kind of story is not that rare after all…
Here is mine contribution..

I have a friend who was pregnant and she and her husband choose a name for their baby girl, they call her like that for the first months and one night my friend dreamed that the baby girl, who in her dream was a little girl, told her “But mommy, my name is Celia!”.
My friend and her husband absolutely HATED that name, and she does not consider to named her that name, but the same dream repeated every night! She found it so incredible but just couldn’t appreciate the name!
The day she gave birth they went to the hospital and decided that they will name her the name they really love.
When the baby was born, they were asked what her name is, and without talking about it before, they both told the nurse that is is: CELIA!
They often tell us that they wanted to say the name they loved but that when they opened their mounth it just didn’t come and they heard themselves saying Celia.
The little girl is now 5 years old, and they both adore the name……..and Celia is the splitting image of the little girl her mom used to dream about.
—— And about the post, I like the name Sienna, it’s pretty and feminine and still very uncommun here in France.

Congratulations to the happy couple! I love the name! I have to add my contribution to the “dream name” stories. When I was pregnant with my third child (my first son after two girls), I kept dreaming I was having twins. I knew I was having a boy from the moment I realized I was pregnant and I had had his name (Christopher Anthony) picked out since I was 12. I went out and bought a baby name book since I was convinced I was having twins (even though the ultrasound said different) and picked out the name Cameron Alexander. Well, Christopher was a single birth, but 18 months later, Cameron joined the family!

Krys on

Aww Congrats! I’m a little sad (lol) that is the exact name I was going to give to my 1st born daughter…whenever that will be. I always liked the name Sienna and the middle name Marie was my grandmother’s name. And I agree Marie as a middle name is very common, nonetheless still beautiful. Congrats again!

Kewky on

Well, I had a dream when I was 11 of a baby girl I couldn’t see against my chest. And I had a giant panic attack that I didn’t know a name for her. And I chose one. The next night she said to me that that was the right name. I’ve never wavered.
